If they insulted you without you provoking (insulting them first) them, then I do agree that you should start reporting these type of players and hope that a GM does take any action. But those players have no obligation to wait for you and while what they did was a douche move, it does not mean they were incorrect or that they did something worth being reported for.

Thanks for clarifying. So you are basically allowed to help others but you aren't allowed to ask for help in return and should use PF also for something other than finding parties. Each to their own I guess.

It's sort of like that, but not exactly. It's really just an extension of an aspect of the Japanese cultural mentality, specifically "do your best not to be a potential burden on or annoyance to others". Making yourself noticeable to everyone around you for your own benefit, such as using shout to get help, can be seen as acting in this way. Asking for help is not taboo, it is just done differently.

As has been stated , cultural differences, which have their pros and cons and differing people will have differing preferences. Myself, I lean more towards the Japanese mindset on stuff like this most of the time.


As for getting your feathers ruffled over rude people in a videogame or on the internet, as the Japanese say, "shikata ga nai". It's not worth prolonging your unhappiness by getting all in a huff over a momentary unpleasant occurrence that has passed.

If a person was really out of line such as repeatedly swearing at you and intentionally obstructing you from normal gameplay, especially without provocation, then by all means report them. Minor things though are not worth souring your mood over.

If they really did call you that, you definitely can report them. People do get in trouble for a lot less than using directed slurs and profanity.
Not holding a FATE, though, is not a reason to report someone as it's only them playing the game as intended.
Also note that anything you said can get you in trouble, as well.

This, all there is to it. Not sure why you made this thread tbh, if you feel something is worthwhile to report then do it.

But, why would you expect people in the middle of a FATE to a) see your shout (I disabled shout a long time ago personally) b) respond or c) stand around waiting while enemies wail on their level sync'd butts.

You seem to be expecting a bit much. This reminds me of the whole early pull thing for hunts. Hunts are open world, first come first served content. There is no early pulling. FATE are open world, first come first served content, there is no 'premature completion'... There is no 'Wait for me, wait for me' entitlement.

No you didn't. The OP put the context into his/her post, trying to explain the situation that had occurred. If OP would have only stated something like:

"Yesterday a person verbally insulted me as I was on the game, can I report that person?"

A lot of us would have asked for the context, because that phrase would have made no sense to begin with. So OP kindly provided a bit insight on the situation itself, without going into the whole/full story, trying to get an insight on should or should it not be reported, and if it's reported, how high are the chances that something is going to be done about that.

The whole "but you can't assume people holding a fate for you" is irrelevant, it could have happen in the middle of Limsa as I stated prior, but what does matter is the behavior from both sides, but I explained that already last night, not going back into that. Just pointing out that the fate itself has nothing to do with it, it is and was context purpose only.

If OP had not "confronted" them to begin with it would not have been an issue. So the context is pretty relevant to the overall point. If you are so sensitive that you can't handle people responding to your confrontation, then don't confront them in the first place. I feel like what the vast majority of people would have done would have been to either a) ignore them completely and go about your day, or b) confront them, be verbally assaulted, gotten over it, and gone about their day.

Why we feel a need to tattle on people for out hurt little feels is beyond me. What actual HARM did these people cause you that you want to get them in trouble?

if it happens often, then maybe you should look within to see whether you're unintentionally winding people up because from my experience deliberate bad attitudes are a tiny minority. It could just be that the way you're confronting people is escalating a situation rather than achieving your actual goal, which was simply to figure out what happened, right?

I find bad attitude somewhat common, ill never forgot the time I did Labyrinth of the ancients being chewed out because someone was salty over dying, and telling me how to cast what spells and when to cast and how he did not like me casting succor at X moment. Just now I got into a DF where I was the only AoE damage, no one spoke when I commented about the MNK having low AoE dps (more like nonexistent, they would go full out on a single target and pull hate) and someone was trolling not loting so I could not vote kick.

I am not sure if I am fully understanding your culture with the shout rules but I like to see less toxic spam in uldah and iddy, talking about ERP and random stuff, but I do find it odd.. really people blacklist you if you ask anyone seen X B rank hunt? (while in that hunt zone)?
