That is my complaint.

Then again, I've not played World of Warcraft much and I know this game is heavily inspired by it. Perhaps this is how WoW worked?
Idk, I never played WOW, ffxi, or any other MMO except for DCUO. I stopped playing that for reasons. But I haven't stopped playing this since I started, and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. Me not playing other MMO's is irrelevant. If I had to play other MMO's to appreciate this one, I certainly wouldn't be here.

All I know is, I've enjoyed the game as is, and I never expected it to change. The fundamental aspects of the game has been a part of the game from the beginning, and I see no reason for them to be different. If people are tired of it, they can play another game. I'm not tired of it, and whether its an old system or not, its a system that works. Makes no sense to change it simply because people want it to be different.

I'm not saying I do not appreciate this game, but honestly, I've been around with this since beta 1.0. I notice your join date reads "Jan 2015", perhaps you feel differently on this as stated, or perhaps you haven't gotten burned out by dungeon spamming content and lack of open world. Perhaps open world content means nothing to you, or perhaps you haven't experienced it and don't see the potential it can bring to a game like this. There are a lot of variables here, but I think what can be taken from my side of the fence is that there are enough people that have an issue with this.

I noticed my OP has nearly as much likes as the opposing opinion, and I know that isn't a tell all, but I've seen complaints all over reddit and other forums about the content of this game being monotonous and too rinse and repeat. I feel as if there is a sizable enough audience that wants more from their expansions, wants more from their progression, and wants the game to do better.

Mega Man 1 is a great game
Mega Man 2 is a greater game
Mega Man 3 is another good game
Mega Man 4 is as well
Mega Man 5....okay I've played this a little too much before.

New Super Mario. Bros - Hey, cool! They brought back 2D Mario!
New Super Mario Bros. Wii - Hey, cool! Mario on the Wii with multiplayer!
New Super Mario Bros. U - Uhh...it's designed well, but why is the layout the exact same for 3 games in a row?

No one is calling this game bad, but it's getting dull for a lot of us. Not because we played it a lot, but because they keep giving us a little TOO much of the same thing. No one wants to turn this game from FFXIV to Barbie's Horse Adventure or anything, we just want more creative and enticing content.

I agree. Would looove to see new content added. What you described about Mega Man is the exact reason why I stopped playing single player games. They are more or less the same game with updated graphics..which, well...gets old for me. I have never seen people be against new content before as such in this thread. It would be amazing to have more to do then log in on Tuesday, clear weekly raid, do 24 man once, roulettes/WT, and then log out.

I am looking forward to Eureka because Yoshida said its new content If, in the end he does allow us to upgrade our armor via Eureka..that would be a start! Also as a side note - all of my friends (lots of them) who have quit..all tell me the same thing "well, its a nice game and all but with the patch updates..its more or less the same formula so I just got bored and went to play (insert random game here)" and they never came back.

To be fair with NSMB nearly everyone I've spoken too says those games are soulless cash grabs.
Atleast with single player games like Mega Man or the non MMO Final Fantasy games they add new mechanics or change the formula.

Mega Man X1 is my favorite platformer of all time because it took the classic MM formula and made it better. Even single player Mega Man did the same they added something to the games as they went on and didn't take anything away til 9 and 10. As for FFXIV and people's expectations I think people are just so used to getting "meh" content that they're used to it. I've never seen a playerbase fear as much change as this one.

I think Mega Man is actually a very good argument against changing your formula. Most people agree that Mega Man 2 is the best, though some say 3. 4 is where things really start to decline, and it's almost entirely because they added the charge shot. 7 and 8 changed the platform and added a whole bunch of collecting, and those were pretty mediocre too. Then they removed all that stuff and just designed a great game, and we got Mega Man 9, which I actually think is better than 2. (And I play the entire series regularly, this isn't blind nostalgia talking.) Now, I personally think 9 is great entirely because of how well-made it is. Every weapon is super useful in all content, for instance, something later (than 2) Mega Man games stopped doing. But it's worth pointing out that Mega Man 9 also stripped away all of the "improvements" they added after Mega Man 2 and went back to basics. So... maybe not the best series to use as an example of why changes are needed.

If Stormblood comes out and adds no new wrinkles to progression at all, but has amazingly-designed dungeons and a legitimately awesome story, people will like it. Conversely, if they change it to the platonic ideal of MMO progression (whatever that is) but the design is mediocre, people will hate it. Quality is quality. Hopefully the alleged increased budget will yield that quality.

The best received and best sold games in a series tend to be the ones that stick to the formula.

It's a reality that, as much as gamers ask for innovation, they don't actually WANT it.

Upgrades, they love upgrades. Brb need to upgrade my grandmas in cookie clicker.. :3

As aside: (I think sometimes variations upon the winning formula can be seen as innovation, but complete 180 changes I don't recall that many games for being worlds better for it - maybe worse because of it)

In fairness, it goes both ways. Resident Evil was getting stale, 4 changed the formula, and people loved it. Call of Duty's WW2 was getting stale, they went modern, people loved that. And then they went future and people hated it, so they're going back to WW2.

I mean, the lesson to be learned, I think, is that innovation can be good or bad. Crazy, I know. It's a risk. I don't think it's a risk worth taking in this case, many people (such as myself) like the way the game works.
