While browsing through this thread and looking at the screenshots I noticed how almost every one of the male characters has lipstick.

If my character looks as though he does it's just a side effect of the lighting and the dark skin tone - in other words, please ask S-E ;p

(I did use dark eyeshadow though, can't get a good sunken expression without it!)

Since Eorzea has a different culture to ours, it seems like a good place to explore creative looks on characters who are probably more attractive than our real world selves, and I think it looks cute. My wife slaps on shiny electric pink lipstick in Eorzea which would never happen in real life, because it's fun to explore different looks here.

Of course in real life any guy can just walk into a chemist store and buy as much lipstick as they want, and just about every actor/musician on television is wearing the stuff.

... How about a 'gender-less' character option? As an example, I envision a Miqo'te character creator screen where one can go to both 'extremes', to the female and the male side we already have and everywhere in between. I can see a slider, at the left side it has 'Male', at the right side 'Female'.
The character created this way can wear both, male and female clothing.
This would actually be very cool, and, I don't think it has been done before...

the LGBT community calls this gender fluid, they consider themselves to be both genders and sometimes neither gender. I would be all for this option if SE added it. but the likelyhood they would is not very high
trying to imagine an Au Ra genderfluid and wonder if we would get a height slider that would allow us to be as small as the smallest Au Ra Female or as tall as the tallest Au Ra Male.....still liking this idea and not seeing any disadvantages to it

I myself have also given my (albeit female) character dark eyeshadow for example, but that's not so that she looks like she's wearing eye makeup but because it complemented the shape of her eyes to make them look a little less droopy with the female Au Ra face 1.
But with lipstick on male characters it's not something that somehow changes the face or eye shape slighty without really noticing it. It's really noticeable because it's extremely shiny. That's why I asked specifically about male characters with lipstick.

Would like to point out that Au Ra lip colours look like lip glosses while Elezen lip colours look like matte lipsticks (on females at least). So race might have to do with it!

Personally I slapped just a touch of lip color on Lukh'a, because his natural color was too close to his skin color and his lips just kind of faded into his skin. It just looked really weird to me, even without cosmetics, lips stand out a bit! I've also changed his lip color previously for things like Halloween Costumes (I've got some nice pictures of him dressed as a Behemoth lying around that I'll probably use in here eventually), but mostly I leave the lips alone, since I don't really care for most of the colors in common use.

XD I've gotten some ribbing from FC mates over the blush I put on Lukh'a as face paint, though. I think it looks cute and healthy, but apparently some people think it makes him look like something out of a cheesy yaoi manga.

It's very likely. When I roll as a male Dusky I always have a lip color on him because it just looks better to have the lips be a slightly darker color. It has never struck me as particularly shiny.

Graphics options may play into this as well. Some settings may make the shininess more visible compared to others.

By the way, I also do put eye shadow on him, usually a dark blue/green color. Because I wanted to have a pretty boy with eye shadow. And I do rather like androgyny, anyway.

I will say that I'm the last person who would ever glamor my male Aura into a dress, but I do feel that everyone deserves to express themselves the way they want to. I mean, it's a video game after all. If these glamors bother you, then youre probably paying too close attention to them. That being said, there is one female outfit that I wish males could have and that's the Oasis Tunic. It never struck me as highly feminine and I always wanted it for my ninja. I support this thread simply because it's a video game and it shouldn't be a big deal. I've always thought that some people in this game spend way too much time caring about what others are doing.
