I was thinking how awesome time mage would be as an arcanist job the other day too! You could make use of the supposed totem-style gameplay Arcanist has where they place their weapon down in certain areas for certain effects (I believe that's what the class was described to do) and have things like 'time zones' so you could place your weapon down in one area for a 'stop zone' and all enemies within a certain radius receive Stop on them.
Obviously that could be applied in various ways such as haste zones, slow zones, gravity zones, all to provide some interesting ways of CCing and buffing etc.
I would absolutely main Time mage.
i like bard and time mage YES PLEASE!!!~~~ <3

Time mage would be freaking awesome! Don't forget about bard though ><
+1 for Time Mage
Time mage abilities are/would be inherently broken in an MMO, and time mage itself doesn't have enough depth to be a full class. Demi/Quarter would be ridiculous, Stop would be ridiculous unless it was just stun/terror with a different name. Thaumaturge already has slow. Quicken would have to be totally reworked for a real-time combat system. Haste was given to white/red mage in FFXI.
-1 for time mage. Time manipulation is overpowered in almost every implementation. Take Magic: The gathering for example. Almost every card with the word 'time' in the title gets restricted or banned before long. Every time ability would either be too strong or useless.

Well, in FFXI there's:
-Haste (3 forms of it even, Spell, Gear and Ability/Weapon Delay haste.)
-Slow (Tiers as well as types, Spell, Song and Gear)
-Stop/Terror (Player Terror is very gimped compared to enemy terror, so it would work fine, but almost never work on NMs.)
-Demi (Breath Damage is a popular form of Demi, Ruinous Omen from Diabolos is a form of Demi, ignoring resistances)
So on so forth. It works well, it's all in how Square would balance it.
Seeing its already a full job in many final fantasy games, this is statement is false.
Demi aka Gravity was already worked and balanced into FFXI, an MMORPG, as a heavy inducing spell. Making your statement wrong.
For proof that anything can be balanced, read the answer above.
So? Do THMs have dibs on it? Time mage could get slow II for that matter.
Off the top of my head: Quicken could either make the next action used by target player immediately repeat itself or have no TP/MP cost.
1- This isn't FFXI. 2- Haste II.
Teleport
Warp
Slow/Slowga
Haste/Hastega
Demi/Graviga
Reflect/Reflectga
Blink/Vanish
Meteor/Comet
Stop
Immobilize
Float
Break
Doom
And above all.....TIME COMPRESSION!
Probably a job stemming from the arcanist's class, seeing the buffs and debuffs as well as various trapping Abilities.
Oh, and buff/debuff extending spells. All of the above.
CHainspell, slow, paralyze, are all variations of spels that would work well for time mage.

I wonder if we could get a developer quote if this keeps trending come monday :P
I want time mage, but I'm hoping since bard comes from archer and we have this chain system, they will be a sick puller and we will be getting sick chains!
I'd like a blue mage class or job (i thought blue mage could be 2nd job from the tamer class, if they add 2nd jobs, just since they might give it smn lol) where instead of just learning spells from the mob, you sort of farm spells from the mob, see what I'm saying here, like FFVIII. I wouldn't want them to be bought and sold though. I always thought it would be cool to have the ability to learn from another blue mage in a pvp situation, but this would probably create some sort of powerleveling, or an awesomely cool secret society of blue mages who learn stuff from each other.
I didn't have anymore ideas for time mage, all of your guy's ideas were pretty badass.
