Please, no hammers for tanks... Are really ugly. A gunblade since the katana is no longer possible is better.

I like to see a gunblade type of weapon in FFXIV, but personaly, I am tired with so many sword classes in the game. We now 5 classes who use some from of a blade. Maybe we could get the gunhammer that the Roegadyn was wielding in patch 3.56 MSQ cutscene?
They also have double edges that put them out of most sword categories. . Granted my ninja is only 57, I still see more dagger types than sword types, even though they are abominations. Going through http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...1&category3=84 still shows more dagger like weapons than anything at higher levels, except the higher stages of the anima. Those look like JianI think the main thing I was trying to convey got sorta lost. I was trying to indicate that the "Ninja", as in the Job itself, weapons are based around Ninjato more than traditional daggers, not even Ninjato specifically but short swords in general. There are a few that are shaped like Sais, Machetes, Butterfly Swords, basically any type of short sword. As you indicated yourself a "true" dagger has defining characteristics that very few of the Ninja weapons have, and mostly any "true" daggers are low level items for when you are still a Rogue. Though there are a few in end game, but you'll notice they are much longer than they should be to be a "dagger"
I also agree with you about there being no katana in game.
3.0 called. They want their mindset back. Seriously, it's been nearly a year and a half. Monks and Dragoons aren't stealing your accessories anymore. Let it go....As interesting as it would be to get a Light Armour or Mail armour wearing tank, it would be more of a pain in the butt to deal with loot than it would be worth to just be different for the sake of being different. In addition to the stupid notion that tanks had to spend millions of gil to get good accessories, people didn't like the idea that they also HAD to compete with the STR dps on DPS accessories. So unfortunately it's designed this way so we don't have to deal with that nonsense again.
E.g Your tank Blue Mage wants Striking Gear, but your MNK/SAM has priority because it's a better upgrade on them. As a blue mage you'll have to suck it up and not get upgrades for awhile or switch to a Fending Tank to utilize those fending drops.
Also, how would you know that a lighter-armor tank would use ALL striking gear or ALL casting gear? Worst case scenario points to those tanks just using the armor while using Fending accessories, while the possible outcome is having their own armor type while still using Fending accessories. Really not that bad.

Yes, thank you, Jian is a great example. And thank you for finding the word, there were a lot of types to sift through so I only went with the ones I was familiar with, lol. Also keep in mind that a sword of any kind can be double edged, most European swords are, regardless of size, whereas the longer an "asian" sword gets the more likely it will only have one side to it. But anyways as with what started this topic, lol, thats the reason why they have slashing not piercing.
I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.
Just remember we're fighting big ass monsters for the most part, some guy on YT did a vid explaining how the combat in Witcher 3 for example makes sense because different martial arts would be developed to combat and target certain body parts by doing these uncoviental moves... buttttt for the most part I doubt FF thinks about that and it's just for the flashyness, but try to embrace it as being a special martial art to combat primals and the likes
I agree with most of your posts so don't get me wrong! But I have to disagree here, the Samurai tank dream is dead, and personally I really hope we don't get a Gunblade tank, seems too flimsy to be a tank weapon, just my opinion. Unless they make it a large gunblade, but then it's just meh because we already have DRK's wielding large swords.. I personally either want a Hammer tank but with a Crusader theme, be like PLD but using Holy Magic offensively or a Dual Wielding Tank, a tank that has the speed of MNK/NIN would be really interesting, either a finesse or magically properties
But I'll take a gunblade Tank if it's the next thing, for sure. Idm what they do as long as we get a new tank!

Im cool with hammer or flail/shield tank. I could go with viking/blu/or mystic knight reallyI agree with most of your posts so don't get me wrong! You judge aesthetics differently for them on purpose to paint DPS in a better light. Mages are no better than healers regarding gear, for instance. I'll give you an example in reverse:Oh, what about their aesthetics? For tanks you just have plate guys. They like... Use your common melee weapons. Healers? They're all robe wearing magic users. Staves... and other random miscellanous items. DPS? Ah, you have a Dragon killing knight, a Shaolin Martial Artists, a NINJA, a mage that explodes things, a mage that likes chicken nuggets or floating boogers but also shoots orbital death beams, a bowman that sings, and a steampunk gunner that uses turrets. You'll soon be able to enjoy a ronin-esque SAMURAI and a dapper as all hell Fencer that casts magic too.
/endrant
DRK-- You wield the power of darkness to grant you tougher skin and stronger arms to heft a blade than can be two or three times your size. As you face your foes down you do so with the knowledge that staring into the abyss gives you strength, but the longer you stare, the closer you are to the brink...
WAR-- Pure rage fills your veins as you fight like an unchained beast. Your axe swings through flesh and armor as easily as it hews its way through solid steel, constantly on the edge of losing control to the monster within you seeking the blood of your foes. The only thing keeping you sane is knowing your allies are at your back, and you desire their safety more than the inner beast desires your foes' blood.
PLD-- Oath and duty bound to protect the innocent you take up the greatest symbol of protection: the shield. The powers of holy magic grant you the ability to not only save your allies from harm, but also to heal them should they falter. In times of great strife you call upon your most powerful ability to become an invincible bulwark between your foes and your friends.
DRG-- idk you poke things
BLM-- just wear robes fire fire fire ice ice ice
SMN-- lol witch doctor more like
MCH-- BRD but with guns
BRD-- MCH but with bows
MNK-- meta says bye
NIN-- Obligatory dual swordsman/Kite wannabe
Honestly I greatly prefer if Tank Jobs finally get something new that is not a type of "Sword" and the excuse of "Go play Warrior if you don't like sword" is becoming old because it really is old as Warrior is the only Unique Tank Job that does not use a Sword type weapon.
It feels like the only thing players want to be used for their Tank Job are "Swords". Hammer tank is one thing I would like to see since it can offer to be a debuffer tank using the Hammer to "Crush" enemy armor and reduce enemies ability to cause damage.
As for Gunblade tank it is a bit difficult to determine how Gunblade may function as a Tank because we do not know the identity of Gunblade as a whole in FF series.
The Main Iconic appeal for Gunblade is Squall and he is often pictured as a DPS due to focusing on causing explosions on his hit for more damage and his iconic Lionheart Limit Break which appeals more to DPS Job role.
However, with Gunblade's different function in FF14 they can completely work Gunblade from the ground to have completely new identity unique to FF14 only with a new Limit Break that has never been seen in any FF game for Gunblade Job in FF14 like they did with other Limit breaks for certain Jobs.
