Let's correct this for DPS some.Hi all, let's examine facts: what each role have to do while in a duty?
Here is:
DPS
- learn its rotation
- burn mobs
- leave commends
HEALER
- being geared for healing tank pulling the whole map
- learn its dps rotation
- stance dance for heal and dps
- make sure no one dying
- being watchful of aggro
- know mechanics
- focus heal who doesn't know mechanics
- in bad situations, decide who let die and who not, who to ress and who not
- know he will be blamed for anything goes wrong
TANK
- being geared for the duty
- know the duty
- know what to aggro, when to aggro
- know what not to aggro
- know he will be blamed for anything goes wrong
- perfect knowledge of mechanics
- keep. aggro. always.
- get aggro back when dps pulls it (because, most likely, dps was targetting the WRONG mob to kill, or going all-out on a single mob while tank have a pull of about 1 hundred)
- make sure healer never gets aggro
- learn its dps rotation
- stance dance when required
Now, why we haven't so much tanks? It is the same as dps as a role.. or maybe not...
DPS
-Be Geared for content so mobs die at an adequate rate and you aren't stuck in a dungeon forever.
-Learn a DPS rotation that is longer and more involved than the DPS rotations of healers or Tanks
-Dodge AOEs
-Know Mechanics
-Be able to perform mechanics while performing your rotation and maintaining your job Buffs
-Be able to AOE down large pulls so that the party doesn't wipe when the Tank runs out of Cooldowns and the Healer runs out of Mana
-Use aggro control abilities so you aren't ripping aggro, or changing targets when you're about to rip aggro if you're a Monk or the ability is on cooldown.

we have more dps than tanks or healers because the group composition calls for more dps. for example, 1 tank 1 healer 2 dps. the group composition calls for more dps because you typically only need 1 tank and healers can easily manage the low health pool of players. bosses have a lot of health so you need more dps.
but you are right: there's an imbalance between tanks and healers. the roulette role in need is almost always tanks and tank queues are much faster. this is because there's more pressure on being the tank and most people don't want it. people whine if you pull too slow, if you pull too fast, and if you don't know where you're going. this is why a lot of bad tanks resort to acting like jerks because they can't handle the pressure

At first when reading the title i thought you mean't SE decision to actually add more dps then heals and tanks, that would be entire different opinion i would have.... lol
No doubt there exists a shortage of tanks especially while waiting over 35 mins for one to do fairly recent dungeons.
Myself and 2 friends of mine waited like 40 mins the other day for a tank for Sohm Al HM.

We have more DPS than Tanks or Healers because there are more DPS classes/jobs than there are Tank/Healer classes/jobs.
Yes, seriously.
There are actually (approximately) equal number of people playing each class/job, but since there are about as many DPS classes/jobs as the Tank and healer ones combined, we end up with more people playing DPS.
Tank life Heal life

Hey, you know what might be cool? Maybe not bashing on the DPS some more for once. Especially that OP. DPS are only good for burning mobs and leaving commends for the tanks and healers, huh? Guess I should just stop using Dismantle, Promotion, and Hypercharge at all, huh? Get outtttttt.
Frankly, that whole list is wrong. Every class has pretty equal responsibilities and will get blamed if they do something wrong. The whole thing boils down to this asinine "Blame game" where people try to find what someone else is doing wrong and call them out on it, when really it's unnecessary, no one is perfect, and if you're not wiping everything is probably just fine, and if you do once or twice, it's still probably fine. I main DPS, but I have a tank levelled for endgame content when my friends and FC need it. I prefer to DPS because the rotations(Or in the case of my MCH, priorities) are more frenetic and complex than any healing or tanking job. I like fast-paced jobs that require you to always be doing something, and tanking and healing don't provide that for me. Tanks are just too slow in general for me to enjoy, and I just don't like healing because I don't find it fun.
Dunno about you, but "Because I can shoot the bads and it ez" isn't my reason for playing what I do.
Your lacking some things.
All Classes should follow mechanics when it's appropriate, hence needed, be well geared, accept tips, know their rotations, and ask for help.
Second: in a perfect world everyone would know min how a tank works, healer works, and DPS work. DPS also sometimes end up temp tanking and must know how to rotate enmity to prevent tank getting confused.
Third: KNOW THEIR ROLE, COOL DOWN, AND CROSS CLASSES

they have equal responsibility dps are killing the thing and most mechanics in most fight just by design(there are 4 of us) affect the dps and failure to do them leads to people dying and wipes
It's nothing more complicated than people like dealing damage. In WotLK healing was pants on head easy, but dps still outnumbered them by several fold.
