The Final Reason on why we have more DPS than Tanks or Healers

Hi all, let's examine facts: what each role have to do while in a duty?
    Here is:

    DPS
    • learn its rotation
    • burn mobs
    • leave commends

    HEALER
    • being geared for healing tank pulling the whole map
    • learn its dps rotation
    • stance dance for heal and dps
    • make sure no one dying
    • being watchful of aggro
    • know mechanics
    • focus heal who doesn't know mechanics
    • in bad situations, decide who let die and who not, who to ress and who not
    • know he will be blamed for anything goes wrong

    TANK
    • being geared for the duty
    • know the duty
    • know what to aggro, when to aggro
    • know what not to aggro
    • know he will be blamed for anything goes wrong
    • perfect knowledge of mechanics
    • keep. aggro. always.
    • get aggro back when dps pulls it (because, most likely, dps was targetting the WRONG mob to kill, or going all-out on a single mob while tank have a pull of about 1 hundred)
    • make sure healer never gets aggro
    • learn its dps rotation
    • stance dance when required

Now, why we haven't so much tanks? It is the same as dps as a role.. or maybe not...

I think the answer is that DPS can have variability than Healers who are hard locked to healing and tanks who are hard locked into tanking.

After all, healers have damage skills, but none of them don't have damage skills. DPS is home to Bard, Monk, and Ninja, as well as a variety of other mixes of styles. That's a heavy support, no support, and small support right there.

Or you could do like you said and all bards could just ignore the fact they have songs.

And the point of this thread .. apart from stating the obvious .. is ... ?

Also, you're being highly selective of course .. several of the tank and healer requirements also apply to DPS but you choose deliberately to ignore that fact in order to try to prove a point

I like how, according to the OP, it's not the priority for DPS to:

    Be geared for content
    Know mechanics
Utilize secondary abilities to manage aggro, support or self-healing

Suddenly, the DF makes so much more sense!

Heh the reason is simpler than that: people like to dps more than healing or tanking. Do you see people in other games "running" to the tank or healer spot? Do you see more tanks or support being added in these games (not just ffxiv)? Of course not.

If people were more prone to play tanks or healers, I would be able to play assaults or defense in Overwatch, or assassins in Mobas or - in this game - I would be able to get into any team without waiting half an hour of queue!

This also leads to why a lot of DPS "suck" at their classes in many games, because they don't even know how to play them: they just like it because "it's a <insert class here> and I like <Insert silly reason>".
I don't like BLM but I like big numbers (and I'm fairly good at giving those big numbers), and I like tanking because I like to be required and I like insta-queues (especially when I'm a solo player who doesn't rely on others)

PS: This is my opinion so torches and forks aren't required.

Lets get someting straight here, all roles have responsibilities.

Talking about normal duty roulette, dungeons, trials and raids.
People are willing to swallow a bad dps, same cannot be said to tanks and healers.

If your tank is not keeping aggro, healer not keeping the party alive. Compared to dps not pulling their weight.. you get the point.
    A very wrong point!

Tanks and healers can be just as lazy as dps.
Tank: Keep tank stance on and spam aggro rotation (AoE aggro rotation)
Healer: Just heal. Over heal. Nobody cares as long as no one dies.

Admit it, this is the type of people you run into in DF.

I will admit that tanking and healing require much more if you are going to play them to their full potintial. At endgame, all roles matter equally.

The real reason is (Harsh Version):

Both Tanks and Healers are artificial roles with no point nor purpose. They are forced into the group via un-avoidable damage and are only ever as useful as they are mandatory. That's also why they end up becoming DPS as soon as Mitigation/Healing requirements are met - They are innately useless. That's also why they need Damage abilities for solo play - Because they are useless at their core. Damage is what matters, all that matters. And people subconsciously pick on, hence they prefer playing DPS.

We have more DPS than tanks and healers because healers and tanks have more responsibilities than DPS.

But let's also not forget that a typical part has 2x the DPS than healers and tanks too.

All roles are needed, but I would not call them equal. As it is right now, Tanks and Healers are required to do as much damage as possible on top of healing and tanking. DPS on the otherhand will always be stuck in dealing damage, some classes might support the team, but those skills (SMN can ress, NIN can reduce agro etc) are not used as often as their DPS skills, which can not be said for Tanks and Healers who do stance dancing.

In a group where all 3 roles use all their skills, the Tanks and Healers will contribute alot more then the DPS, this doesnt mean that the DPS players are lazy etc, its just that they lack the tools in their skillset to contribute outside their role. Now for why we do not have as many Tanks and Healers compared to DPS players, there are alot of reasons, from class, to flashy skills to simply prefering to only do damage. Personaly, I think responsablity (Tanks and Healers need/can do more stuff then the DPS) and experience when doing dungeons ( when playing as a newcomer, a newbie Tank or Healer making a mistake will be called out on, but a DPS has another DPS there to cover for them) play a huge factor to why someone would play a DPS over Tank or Healer at endgame.
