If you have some gear set slots open, you can "lock" your items by adding them to a gearset. A bit of a roundabout way of doin it perhaps, but it should do the job nicely.

That doesn't always work, because it only recognizes the gear set if the item is in your armoury chest. But the chest won't hold anywhere near the amount of items you can have in gear sets, so any others that overflow into your inventory aren't recognized as being in a gear set, even if they've been assigned to one. (I've got several cosmetic gear sets, but there are some gear categories where the chest can't hold more than a couple of them at a time along with all my real gear.)
Then again, it's possible Stormblood will fix that issue if they increase the Armoury Chest significantly enough. (We know they're going to be increasing it at least somewhat, but I haven't heard if they've said how much.)
I think a sell lock would be a good idea. Quite a few other games have it and it can come in handy for marking important items.

I just tested this now, I placed my Alexendrian Earrings of Fending in my inventory. Still part of my gearset but not the armoury chest. That doesn't always work, because it only recognizes the gear set if the item is in your armoury chest. Went to go trade stuff in, and it doesn't show up.
So it would stand to reason that making a glamour gearset would save you from accidentally turning things in when you don't pay attention to what you click on.

So if you have items on a retainer or other jobs that you have actually "locked" by using them on the character, those items do NOT show up?
