Concept: Final Fantasy XIV Benchmark "Launcher" (with Leaderboards)

First i'd like to apologize because my image editing skills are terrible, however i think the picture is enough to have an idea of what i'm asking for.

    How it could work:

The idea would be to have a Launcher for the Benchmarks of every version of current and Future Benchmarks.

People would download the launcher, click one of the Benchmarks releases for each major version of Final Fantasy XIV and select the one(s) they want to Test, which would proceed to downloading the version of the Benchmark specified unless already installed.

From here people could pick the DirectX version supported by that benchmark (image bellow has 2.0 DX11 greyed out because it doesn't support it), edit settings such as resolution and Anti Aliasing settings.

Obviously there would be a "standard" preset set by the Devs that would be used for the Leaderboards.

    Why Leaderboards?

The idea of having Leaderboards would be to bring more people to the game, it doesn't mean most people who used the Benchmark for the leaderboards would be interested in playing the game itself, but there's various Benchmarks out there where people try the best they can to be on Top, those people post their results on forums and Youtube (example) which would be a source to "Showcase" the game.

There shouldn't be rewards associated with Benchmark leaderboards, due to obvious reasons.

There should also be a separate leaderboard for each of the benchmarks as well.

The leaderboards would display details such as Min, Average and Max FPS, CPU, GPU, GPU Drivers version, OS version (separate sub-leaderboards for resolutions: 1080p, 1440p, 4k (example)).

The leaderboards could the be used as an example for people looking for an upgrade to their system as well.

The display name of the users would depend if they have an in-game chracter, but would obviously require a Square Enix account to upload to the leaderboards.

    Leaderboard Features

    - Separate Leaderboards for each of the Benchmarks
    - Standard profile set by the devs (aka default profile, and the only one that would be uploaded)
    - Sub Leaderboards for each of the Benchmarks based on the resolution used, default page would be 1080p (due to being the most common).
    - Clicking on a specific Benchmark score would display system details used for that benchmark, such as Min/Average/Max FPS, CPU, GPU, GPU Drivers, OS etc

Bellow is the concept pic (used as an example to give an idea, sorry for bad editing skills ).

    The pic shows:

    - Selectable version of the Benchmark
    - Selectable API (would vary depending if the benchmark supports DX9 only or also DX11)
    - Screenshots showcasing the specific selected benchmark (for people who got the Benchmark but don't know about the game at all).
    - Graph with Min/Average/Max FPS achieved in the benchmark.
    - Leaderboards button taking people to the Leaderboards section of the Lodestone.

For reference the pic is just an "edited" version of the Heavensward benchmark, obviously it can look 1 billion times better.

Again sorry for the poor editing skills

I actually think that's a useful idea. You could take the full scores, compare it to people who got similar (or higher) scores.

Only thing I think they should add in is to be able to search for results by certain criteria, such as by CPU (let's say I want to check all uploaded benchmarks with an i7-3770K, which is my processor), then that should be possible. Because then you can start to see gaps in performance between different builds and help find the greatest upgrades for someone when addressing their build.

It's not a bad idea. I'm for it.

    Just one question...

Is that your actual build? And if so, why are you still rocking a 1920x1080 monitor? That's like hanging a new chandelier in a haunted house. xD

Think it's just random stuff, as GTX 1080 cards don't have 3 gig of Vram.

Nice catch, I completely missed that even though I looked dead at it. >.>

The system seems to max at 3092 for gpu memory in system info for some reason. It shows that on my 6gig 980 TI as well.

I still play on 1080p monitors because im waiting on prices to drop a bit more on the 10bit 4k displays.

Four reasons why I'm not sure about this.

    1) You can change your score by tweaking the game settings (score to low? lower the game settings).
    2) Benchmark scores were only intended for self-competition rather than competition with others because....
    3) devs won't need scores to be public to know what they are, and....
    4) at the end of the day, all this would be is to see who spent the most money on their computer.

Yes that's my build, the 3GB is a bug of the Benchmark itself.

And i use nVIDIA DSR at 1440p, while it's not the same as a real Monitor of say, actual 1440p, its nice, the only thing i don't like about my monitor is the colors and the blacks, they're really bad lol.

    Did you read everything?

Because i said there's a default profile, and the only one that can be uploaded, so if anyone changes any setting they can't upload it.

Fair enough, but still doesn't answer my other three complaints.

Your other complains don't make much sense, because that's the point of Benchmarks, to test Hardware capabilities and it's stability under overclock.

Obviously people with the best Hardware and Overclock would be on top, but how does it affect you? The leaderboards would be mainly to bring hardcore overclockers to the Benchmark and from there it would bring people to the game due to the overclockers post the results to forums/youtube etc.

People could also compare their build with similar builds, but for that the devs would need to display on the result page the frequencies of the RAM, CPU and GPU Core/VRAM, number of GPUs etc.
