I wouldn't say mrd is broken. They SHOULD be doing the best AoE damage and the second best choice for a tank. That much was always the intent of a mrd in FFXIVs eyes, both the original dev and the new one.
However you are right, they need to fix gladiator. The shield skills are all useless compared to what they used to be. I'd happily go back to non auto block if that means I have a higher chance of block and my deflection/abII working again. There really isn't much reason to go glad in somethings, and its sad. Playing since beta and release, Glad has always had the short end, when it came to choosing to level up either your shield or sword lol...and various other things.
One thing I dont agree with is glad not being in high demand. They still are, least on my server.
If you are doing Ifrit efficiently no one will break 10k-11k before Ifrit dies.
MRD does similar damage to LNC so a good MRD can beat an average LNC, or sometimes even a good LNC (randomness on hits). I've beat our LNC's on Ifrit as MRD several times and we've killed ifrit 30ish times, though I usually go LNC. Parses with MRD sometimes get iffy though because your Maim is feeding their Doomspikes so its hard to usually end up with a parse with MRD as #1.
MRD can avoid Sear on Ifrit but the area is very small compared to how much LNC have to work with. Basically its much easier to use LNC on him almost solely because of this fact, along with a shorter Comrade to Arms cooldown.
Some things to note for MRD on Ifrit:
Maim does similar damage to Doomspike (Both buffed)
Storms Path does similar damage to unbuffed Doomspike/Chaosthrust before execute (Damage per TP spent)
MRD normal hits are higher than LNCs and you can often see 30-50 damage hits with Heavy Swing (50s if it crits).
MRD normal hits gain ~70 more TP than LNC's, however LNC attacks faster.
LNC gains TP quicker than MRD but many times waiting for Ifrit skill sitting at 3000% nullifies this advantage.
So they aren't -really- that far off, LNC is just more comfortable to use on Ifrit though and possibly the reason MRD can keep up on Ifrit is because of holding off WS's late in the fight allowing MRD's TP to catch up.
In a straight dummy test LNC should win though nearly every time.
@OP Its unfair to use a parse where your 2 lancers died, or are using something retarded like Skewer. In any case that parse is a wipe, not enough damage to kill Ifrit. If you lived long enough for one person to do 15k, the other 3 DPS would have to do around 9-13k for Ifrit to have died.
Pugilist does well in the fight. The only problem is that they have to be so close to Ifrit that they get hit by his AOE's more than a lancer would, due to the range.... but as far as damage, pugilist can DPS, that's for sure
Glad's went from blocking at a super high rate when guard/deflection/Aegis Boon was used.... to blocking very little with the auto-block system. What worries me is not the balance between damage of DD classes, because the ability revamp is coming where they will redistribute and add abilities for all classes. What I am most worried about is the focus of battles and strategies used since it seems like everyone is spamming AoE and causing a mess of non-strategic zerging to get EXP. I find the battles just a cluster F of spam and I don't like it one bit.
I find that boss battles are fine and very enjoyable but when it comes to EXP, its zerg zerg spam AoE gogogo!
I'm sorry but if anything 1.19 gimped the crap out of mrd. Have you seen the patch notes? All it did was make our skills worse. FFS they pushed up maim's timer.
