Dude, the Atrologian AF isn't a robe, it's just one more in a line of ballgowns for healer players. They mare some minute concessions to masculinize the design on male characters, but they really just highlight that the item is a dress, given that they don't actually change the profile at all.
Hopefully held back until they can figure out how to create a male equivalent without causing some sort of critical server failure. Maybe it'll be possible once they drop PS3 support!

Lukha, I think that your Strife glamour picture was deleted when the troll posts were removed. This is an emergency! We need more Lukh'a!
I can literally wear roses in my hair in this game, and that outfit is a dress, with frills, specifically given a feminine aesthetic according to the words of this very game's design team. Pretty sure it passes. Of course if there was literally no difference there would be no point in releasing things :s
So it was, oops. Photobucket is a nightmare to navigate by tablet, but I just couldn't let that stand:
I've actually got three versions of this outfit with different leg, boot and head pieces 'cause I was having such a hard time deciding that I tried to have my FC vote on which was sexier. I think this was ultimately best of the bunch (though it would be even better if those ribbons could be pink like canon Cloud).
More later, I've got a idea for some good shots.

Indeed, Nintendo is notorious for proving this statement on Japan's typical views. It's why I find it sad when people think they're "being progressive" by allowing minor things, but whatevs. One can dream of freedom in video games, but even that is restricted and confined... freedom is an illusion.I support glamoring anything onto anything regardless of restriction (heck I support cloth on plate and plate on cloth and cross job, if a tank wants to look like a Black Mage, and they've done the quest, go for it). That's my personal opinion.
However realistically this thread will likely get ignored at best, locked at worst.
The reason for this is SquareEnix is not a western company. They come from a very traditionalistic culture, even more so than the puritannical one that seems to pervade evangelical regions of North America. Its not even going to compute in the heads of the producers to the reasons this thread even exists. To them its going to sound like "I'm X and I want A, because Y has A."
So they'll likely ignore it. Thinking the players are being silly. Or they'll think they are trolling and lock it. I think you all might want to try another method to convey the conversation you wish to start. As we know there is a serious disconnect between their producers and the NA/EU playerbase even before taking culture into mind. As it stands now the way SE sees it, girls that dress like guys are pretending to be guys to fit in (Faris in FFV). Or guys dressing like girls are performing a sort of silly scheme that's likely to end in a satirical outcome (Cloud in FFVII). Not a serious everyday wardrobe reflecting ones identity or equality.
I'd recommend taking it beyond the forums and into some form of media. Perhaps if they get bad press their PR departments will alert the producers that they're offending their consumer base and that action needs to be taken. One thing that is for certain is their culture is not one to insult their guests or hosts. Its weird that it has to be done that way. But most companies are that stubborn.
Anyways, back on topic; personally I'm kinda okay with my female characters only having access to feminine clothes to an extent... sometimes I like having my miquote being tomboyish, and for those days I have her dress in Cloud's clothes. One thing that annoyed me was not being able to wear Cid's goggles because of the gender lock, as it was just the right thing I needed to give my character a steampunk look, but whatevs. I'm not one to gripe about stuff unless it's extremely annoying, but I'd still appreciate it if they could remove locks on clothes. Gives us more freedom to customize, I don't see anything terrible about it.
I fail to see how that would not work on a male character.
Oh no, roses and frills!
I think balance is important. Beyond that, I am all for more variety. Let the guys get some frills. For that matter I wouldn't mind some less frilly stuff and for the love of all that is holy just one open short sleeved jacket that doesn't have a skirt attached. I was really keen for the 3.3 MNK/NIN gear until I realised the chest piece had the skirt attached.
Going for the Miko/Shrine Maiden aesthetic this time. I usually avoid red because it clashes with Lukh'a's hair, but in this case I think it makes for a really well-coordinated look.

You can have skirts for male characters when we females actually get some nice skirts that aren't job specific, and don't have god awful weird half pant additions (looking at you freaking star velvet skirts).

Pssst, the point of this thread is that we already have most of the same skirts you do (and also that females already have a lot more things than males).
Though I'd give a lot for access to those 'half-pant' models you got, rather than the full-pant models available to males. I'd be more than happy to trade, and if they were to add a /pants toggle that worked like the /visor toggle I'd be absolutely ecstatic.
