Building house is relatively easy to implement, consider they already have quite a bit of building models in Hamlets and they planned to implement party crafting at some points. Also the world is large and barren which provide room for player housing. They also planned player ships and naval combat before, no reason why they need to scrap it now.

Yeah, they certainly have enough room!

It's funny people complain of boring and barren landscapes and SE never thought to give us our own means of changing that. Exploration would never grow tiresome when every day the zones had the ability to change, with new houses and villages springing up.

With housing, though, they need the ability to be able destroy houses so players have a way of restoring balance. Urban sprawl and annoyingly placed player-cities are things nobody wants. So this means PvP is a necessity. And this means a lot of controversy for SE.

Final Fantasy players are carebears, in case you didn't already know. The player polls suggest that players are willing to accept massive upheavels in the design, but im not sure implementing PvP is something any FF MMO player would embrace. So it would require a pretty big break from tradition. And even if it meant a larger player-base, it's something players and developers could be shortsighted about.

    B&S, Guild Wars 2, SW:TOR aren't out yet.
B&S won't be out in EU/US before 2012, TERA might be, but i haven't see a fix date to that yet.
if i'm not totally wrong SW will come around 2012 aswell, and i suspect the same goes for GW2.

untill these games are out FFXIV will have a good portion of content allready.
especially the korean games are those that have the hardest time surviving on the EU/US markets.
they are by months behind of the korean updates, and usually end up having a publisher that takes less care of their games then they actually should.

so untill all of these games are actually out in the EU/US market, saying FFXIV will fail to these games is but mere trolling

FFXIV has been out for, oh, how many months now? It still lacks basic content that those games already have in their alpha builds. Mounts, quests, group-instances, JUMP, working combat systems. By the time these upcoming games are released, FFXIV probably will have less content even still. So that's not really a valid argument.

Well, given their track record for NOT releasing any meaningfull content over the past few months, it was a pretty fair assumption that they will keep it up.

Actually, i feel more pvp content like choobo race (where pg's chocobos race each other) should be welcome instead of the same lame "keeel them aaaaaaall!". FF mmorpgs aren't simply like that. Arenas maybe, ballista 2.0, but not pvp like a western game would be with free ganking, rvr and whatsover

Regardless, I won't like seeing people dying all over the place in maps, or trying to avoid a LNC who wants to spear me with a Doomspike when I'm merely crossing an area. Established arenas for people to shed blood, yes, but no PvP in the middle of the land. It just...doesn't seem to fit into a game like this.

Of course, if I get rewards for killing people....heheheh. [kidding]

Have you been on a desert island or something? They have been busy cleaning up the last dev teams mess (which they're very close IMO). Once they have the game running well, and having the basic things it should have has upon release, they can focus on content, which with SE's track record on 11, they can better than anyone.
