We need to look at it from two different stand points. As HW got released, most of us purchased the collector edition or at least pre ordered the game, gaining early access.
Too that time, it was a pain in the butt, there were barely any exp given out, side quests and fates were mandatory and you maybe ended up gaining half or a full level after having done 50+ of them.
Some people kept running the level 45 fate train in the old ARR area, because they would give so much more exp in comparison. But even going this route, it still took hours to get a couple of levels.
Meanwhile, since you're stuttering through the MSQ (not high level enough to grab another quest), you could easily miss or get lost in the story line. After a couple of days, you didn't even know what's MSQ or side quest since most quests were overlapping each other, or you've done some side quest but didn't catch up with main quest, so it didn't made any sense.
The patches after that weren't much better, till they started to change the exp, and took some of the quests out of the MSQ and put em were they belong... side quests.
Anyways, having seen some of my returning friends and I myself leveling some alts, I can agree that the story line is excellent but I wouldn't say it's better than ARR.
After all the changes it's quite enjoyable and takes less time then it used to be. You also have/get a better understanding of the story line with all patches out and no waiting time anymore and it feels less cluttered.
I can see why people that just started, or started a while ago, could enjoy HW more than ARR since they have not experienced ARR without the expansion/nerfs/exp boosts for both ARR & HW, waiting times etc.

Frankly, I quite enjoy gathering in HW. I didn't do much of it in ARR, but HW gathering hooked me. I really love the collectables. With miner and botanist, I could actually use a rotation (and different rotations at that) to acquire them, rather than the press one button for a buff then harvest. Also perfect for leveling rather than taking hours and hours for a level or two. The diadem has reignited my love for fishing (tho it still bugs me a bit).
Not sure how others feel, but I kinda miss favors. I'm sure crafters don't miss them (because of how much they were at least on my server), but I found them really fun to get. Plus it was easier to make Gil. I can make a significant amount of Gil still, it's just more time consuming when compared to favor mats. I'm looking forward to see what SB brings to gatherers. Outside of healing, gathering is my drug of choice :3

The story patches were way way too short. You could see where the story arcs where meant to be, but they passed by so fast they didnt leave an impact. Old arcs where taken up, only to be ignored/forgotten. Some where quickyl executed for the sake of executing them.
I wish the devs would take some time to make the story more enjoyable. Characters motivations changed midway a story patch, what was meant as emotional moments came off as weird due to barely having met the characters.

Your tears are delicious. Please, crafters are still just as useful as they ever were and are still required for overmelds. This was a very welcome change. I can't stress enough how delicious crafters salty tears over melding npcs are. Did I mention the salt is delicious?

Best/Worst HW moment: awkward date with Ser Aymeric.
Thought I was turning up for drinks with the whole crew and its a candlelit dinner with Ser Aymeric
It was the 2016 version of the awkward cloud/barrett date from FF7

He's just pointing out why this expansion wasn't a great one. You may agree or you may disagree, but the general consensus agrees to every single point mentioned, or should one look back and recall the numerous threads about them back in the day? You just gotta remember the "Diadem revamp" fiasco a couple of weeks ago.
In my opinion, Heavensward's story and music was absolutely amazing, a 10/10, but gameplay wise? It was really, really poor. Made me quit 11 months ago, and I just got back to finish the story up and to see what changes to the formula SB brings. Not that I'm expecting one, mind you, but it's my choice to at least wait and see.

I myself never made much money from melds, over or otherwise, but I can see why they'd let anyone get in on that, considering a great deal of the materia market revolves around combat, rather than crafting. Saying it's the only thing crafters can do is a bit of a misnomer though; I find ways to make my gil, and it's not through melds, that's for sure.

Well honestly it doesn't make crafters any less useful. If a melding npc that can't do overmelds is such a terrible thing why aren't crafters up in arms about repair npcs as well? Or the npc that removes materia, or converts gear into materia? If anything it's another Gil sink to help out the economy. I don't understand why some people are so overdramatic about it.Please, continue to provide more insightful commentary. Also, get out.

Oh no, I totally agree with you, dude, I just didn't like how you said it.Well honestly it doesn't make crafters any less useful.
