    -Edit-

I realize i posted my first bit in the wrong thread, but... in response to the OP, you'll still have 5 slots to choose the skills you want as we have now, you just won't have to level alternate jobs to fill those slots.

The system we have now making some problems for some jobs. Making it more open will not help it.all it will do is make all tanks and healers even more the same.
It's already the same. Every Tank/Heal and DPS Job have only one and only one specific rotation, cross class skills that everybody needs to have and that's set by the community and not something a new player could pick by himself, because if they don't get as example blood for blood on a melee dps class, I can guarantee you that this player will be kicked within the next 10 minutes.

Saying that you don't want all classes to be the same and that SE will make it like that etc, is exactly what we're having already if we take a look at the basic concept of each and every class/job and role.

Any Job/Class is also as boring as it gets if you have level'd more than one character throughout your gaming life. Making it mandatory for people to play specific classes/jobs they don't want just to unlock their primary character or getting specific cross class skills, was and is still boring. Maybe not the first 3 weeks you're playing the game since everything is new and shiny but after that most people can't be bothered. It's not fun and we've seen the "let's not get cross class skills" trend last summer spike immensely throughout the servers, making it frustrating for others and I to even do daily roulette's.

From my own experience, I always hated drg, and while it's a bit more fun at 60 than it was prior still is not my favorite to go too class and never will be. I didn't play melee dps or wanted to try it for the first year I was new to the game.

Why? Because they make you level that lancer/drg to lvl 34 for the "important" and mandatory cross class skill. There was no potd and that made it even worse, now I not only need to play a class I don't want to play, now I am also stuck wasting days leveling that character via dungeons, then I need to backtrack getting my main class up right after that, running these dungeons again wasting even more time and getting me burned out.

I really can't understand why you think, that having a system like that, that's outdated to most other mmo's would be something new and old players keep enjoying. We also have not seen the changes, there is no to little information on how the "new" system or changes will look like. Maybe we just wait for some more information to come out before we start telling people how bad it will be etc.?

Hearing player complain about Homogenization in realation to the Cross Role skills makes me facepalm. This is going to allow them to do otherwise. When they move must have skills from Class/Jobs to Cross Role skill list this will free up slots for unique abilities.

The Healer Cross Role skill list is likely going to contain these and possibly more:
    • Raise/Ascend/Ascension
    • Esuna/Leeches/Exalted Detriment
    • Protect
    • Swiftcast
    • Cleric Stance

By moving these skills from each job's personal skill list they free up room to add more unique/signature abilities to the jobs.

    5 Cross Class actions
3 potions (Mind, Echo Drops, and misc)
    Sprint
    Mount
    Gysahl Greens
Chocobo actions (really just use 2 of them)

So yeah.. minimum of 4 bars needed (might be able to squeeze it down to 3 for dungeons/raids, but lets be honest.. I don't really wish to swap abilities around as I have them right where I need them for my mouse button activation on my MMO mouse). In reality I use 5.

This is all before adding in any sort of macros used for alerts (low MP, CC'd ect), marking, and focus. Which would help fill out the 5th bar on its own.

I will say this though. All of my active use abilities (that aren't simply clicked) are on bars 1 and 2. I have easy access via my right thumb to those abilities. I put things like Protect and other buffs on the third bar. There's a 4th bar on the side of the hotbars in a 3x4 and shrunk down. This is where sprint, mount, and potions go. And then bar 5 is shrunk down and in a 12x1 vertical on the right side where my chocobo actions and warnings go. Bars 1-3 are 1x12 in 3 lines over the top of each other, with the petbar as a 'fourth' bar on top if I pull out a pet.

A lot of that sounds like extra stuff tho, I have most of those on side hotbars for clicking. I make use of just 3 for jobs, and don't even use an mmo mouse, just modifiers for 1-4 for the most part. Much easier

in 5.0 i can see them removing classes entirely, seperating sch and smn, base level prob be 30 without a potion, and the cross role skills be picked for you, not as cross role skills we have an option* Im guessing, out of a list. What id expect to see is instead of 5 we will probably see 7 skills to choose from, out of a list, considering some skills like rampart is going to be on this list and not the jobs predetermined skill/level.

So yeah, even more simplified, with less customization because its "too hard" to pick the right skills for the right situation. Not only that but pretty sure the statement in the future will be "we found that many players, of the same roles chose the same 7 skills from the list, and so we felt like the option to choose between a list was not really valid, so now these skills will just get added at level intervals appropriated with unlocking the additional slot"

    Not necessarily.

While there may end up being a few "must have for every fight" skills (things like Rampart, Raise, Protect, etc.) there is a good possibility that they could put utility abilities that are useful in specific content into the Cross Role pools.

Imagine what the Devs can do if the can guarantee that a standard 2 tank/2 healer/2 melee dps/2 ranged dps composition can have buff strippers, silences, pacifications, sleeps and binds just by changing out cross role skills?

And they said they would be replacing some of those with skills that more fit the Jobs.

Im still going what the hell? at this comment. Typically when someone does not want to play a class they in fact dont want to play a class which does indeed apply to literally everyone unless the rare case of masochism.
I'll say this again: speak for yourself. You said no one likes it. Well, for the third time, speak for yourself. Often, leveling classes and jobs you may dislike, will make you understand some of their points of view, and raise your skill ceiling in the process.

Devs agreed because they do indeed cheese the whole experience. It's a formula they've been using since 2.0. A majority may like it that way, but definitely not everyone.
