Beastmen are only given those title if intended. Mi'qote could be beastmen but they're Eorzeans, same with Au Ra. Viera are more human like as always so they wouldn't fall unto this category unless they say so.In here, to some extent.
On the issue with the childlike 'Viera,' just a flat out no (I'm not even going to argue points. I would prefer the adult Viera). People can argue they don't look like children, but we all know they'll wind up looking very similar to the Miqo'te children (which we know are children even if they look more like a porcelain anime doll) if they were brought into the game.
Beastmen-type races will never be playable. This has unfortunately been confirmed (in the American or Japanese fan fest. One of those).

I was responding to AmalonStar.
This just will not happen because of stupid lore reasons, understandable gear design reasons and another reason I'm choosing to pretend was never said. For those that would prefere more of a beast type race they could bring in the Yagudo or Orcs from ff XI as a playable race just as an example.

The distinction is with how reserved and tribally minded the races are. Technically beast races are just as intelligent and reasonable as the spoken races (see beast tribe quests and in particular, the sylphs - we had a sylph in the scions remember), but the difference is that beast tribes keep to their own culture and laws, and are generally hostile to outside appropriation (which usually results in the summoning of a primal). The spoken races on the other hand have merged their societies and created a multicultural environment across eorzea. Technically, the Au ra tribes of the Azim Steppe could be considered beast tribes if they have their own culture and religion outside of the conventions of the spoken races, as could any tribal Miqote that we come across.
The fact is that the real reason we won't play as beast races is they would need to fit into gear, and thats not happening, but it is also true that Viera would need to fit into Eorzean society in a way that makes sense in the lore (which would imply a level of social interaction).

It is a Final Fantasy rule. You can have a lot of thing named in the same way as previous games, but only the name and maybe some details, the rest is jsut is own thing.I'd not discard the possibility of a Viera popping up during the 24-man raid quests (or even MSQ) then having them as a playable race. Something similar happened with Au Ras, after all.
Can you link me an interview where they said that FFXIV Ivalice would be completely unrelated?. So far, if there's an instance/NPC in the game named after a thing from a previous game, the instance/NPC is built with said thing in mind.
Examples:
- Garland form FFI is not the same Garland form Mobius or form FFIX.
- Most enemies, Primal, Magic and items names. Like the Excalibur. Excalibur is not the same Excalibur form FFIV, or FFIX.
- Places like Palamecia: Palamecia in FFII is not the same place as Palamecia in Mobius Final Fantasy. Same apply to Cornelia, Lidbum, the Void, Costa del Sol, etc.
- Airships: Like the Enterprise. FFXIV enterprise is not the same as FFIV.
And now, the Crystal Tower. Is based on FFIII and have similar character (but not the same), and has been modified to fit the game Lore as and Ancient Power Plant created by the Allagan, and this is not from FFIII. I think Ivalice will have similarities and probably even character similar to tactics/FFXII, but won't be the same place, will have his own story and Lore inside the game.

To expand your point, the Ascians have deep roots in Ivalice mythos, and are a parallel to the Scions of Darkness from FFXII. Having us go to the real Ivalice will be continuity suicide considering how much the Ascian plot takes from Ivalice.
My hope is that Ivalice will be an Ascian focused raid (makes sense considering all raids have been void themed and how connected the ascians are with Ivalice), and that we may meet some of the other Ascians and get more backstory on them. What we know about the Ascians is that they are all from different worlds, with Elidibus and Lahabrea being from the source, perhaps Ivalice is where they came from when they were people.

I would love them to be split into two tribes like that (short/cute, vs fierce/elegant). I've never been personally attached to the race, but I think they'd offer a more unique alternative to Miqo'te.
But I would take more customization over a new race any day lol. And don't you dare quote "why not both" at me. Why not both? Because that's not how irl works. You don't just snap your fingers and demand more of the budget be devoted to superficial items. A lot of it is spoken for in developing proper content.

Which makes me sad, since I wanted a Viera race, but then Yoshida said we would not get a new race. So I started hoping that this meant SE would focus on more customization, but then Yoshida said that this would also not happen. I think even if we wont get Viera next expansion, we will probably also not get more customization.I would love them to be split into two tribes like that (short/cute, vs fierce/elegant). Aww, I would like at least one or the other. Yes I'd like more customization, but if we can't have that, a new race is a decent way to shake it up for a little while at least. </3 Maybe it'll come in a patch. \o/ There is always hope.Which makes me sad, since I wanted a Viera race, but then Yoshida said we would not get a new race. The Source is the Hydaelyn we're on. As I posted before,
A: Maehiro: To be absolutely clear, there is no direct connection between FFXIV’s Hydaelyn and FFXII’s Ivalice or even FFXI’s Vana’diel. They are not the same world in different dimensions or time—they are their own separate worlds. However, there are certain connections to people or objects that appear in these other worlds that figure into the story of FFXIV as it has been conceived and is being told.
