But others do. And the Media loves it when it comes to sexualising women/girls. Some games already got bad rep amongst certain groups of people.
So personally I think we're trying to protect FFXIV from that to happening when we bring this up.
Those certain groups of people your referring to, to me, sound like oversensitive SJWs, for which their opinion doesn't belong in a fantasy game about what looks like what. In the end, no one will hate FFXIV more if they added a race that originally belonged to the FF series, if they did they would be seen as outsiders of the MMO world and Final Fantasy series as a whole. If they weren't already triggered from Lala's, the Viera's shouldn't be a problem.
SJW may be one of them, but there are more than just SJW that may frown on such things. Those certain groups of people your referring to, to me, sound like oversensitive SJWs, for which their opinion doesn't belong in a fantasy game about what looks like what. Besides, everything everyone is saying are just opinions. I think what I think, you think what you think, he/she/it(?) thinks what he/she/it(?) thinks.
And Lalas look like potatoes and not children. ^^
OK I think it's noble that you want to protect FFXIV, but I still agree with @Kurogaea.
Recently returned player.
Nah, I just gave a summary of what you said. Then I said I disagreed with it.
Anyway, blitzball and viera are entirely different. Yoshi P's comments on blitzball has no relevance to viera. People may react negatively to blitzball having different gameplay, but may have a different reaction to a new version of viera with normal human hands and feet. I don't believe comparing what the developer's have discussed about blitzball with viera is a valid argument against adding the race.

*human hands and feet, lore, where they reside from, etc...
It was from a gamerescape interview just after the EU fan fest

I'd not discard the possibility of a Viera popping up during the 24-man raid quests (or even MSQ) then having them as a playable race. Something similar happened with Au Ras, after all.
Can you link me an interview where they said that FFXIV Ivalice would be completely unrelated?. So far, if there's an instance/NPC in the game named after a thing from a previous game, the instance/NPC is built with said thing in mind.
Aside from Au Ra every race in XIV are mostly taken from ff XI because the previous person in charge of making XIV was the same person that did XI so there are a lot of similarities between the 2 games in general.
I would love to see Viera as the next race to come to the game I think they would be cute. In my opinion for any ff game they should be sticking with the aspects and basis every game has in common with each which has and always will make final fantasy what it is, making other races into playable ones is one way to keep people interested. For those that would prefere more of a beast type race they could bring in the Yagudo or Orcs from ff XI as a playable race just as an example.
In here, to some extent.
On the issue with the childlike 'Viera,' just a flat out no (I'm not even going to argue points. I would prefer the adult Viera). People can argue they don't look like children, but we all know they'll wind up looking very similar to the Miqo'te children (which we know are children even if they look more like a porcelain anime doll) if they were brought into the game.A: Maehiro: To be absolutely clear, there is no direct connection between FFXIV’s Hydaelyn and FFXII’s Ivalice or even FFXI’s Vana’diel. They are not the same world in different dimensions or time—they are their own separate worlds. However, there are certain connections to people or objects that appear in these other worlds that figure into the story of FFXIV as it has been conceived and is being told.
Beastmen-type races will never be playable. This has unfortunately been confirmed (in the American or Japanese fan fest. One of those).
