The end of Playstation 3 support.

For all the people complaining about how it is unfair, etc. whatever your invalid opinion is...

PS4 has been out for over 3 years now and you haven't been able to buy any new games for PS3 since PS4 came out because all developers drop the old console when the new one comes out. (especially universally hated development platforms like the PS3 was) Have you remained subscribed every month of the year? Do you put money toward other interests? When PS4 came out they said they were going to drop PS3 support at some point to continue to upgrade the game. That would have been my cue to start saving up for a new system. Buying a new console is like anything you have to allocate money towards it if you can't afford it then you didn't do your due diligence to put enough money aside for it. If you are not able to save up enough money then you probably can't afford to actually play the game with the subscription fee to begin with and should be funneling your sub fee into other areas like a saving fund for if something bad happens.

Another thing people seem to not understand is the more platforms you support the more time spent coding, optimizing and bugtesting that is required. Especially for the PS3 platform which uses a ridiculously bad hardware system it adds an above average amount of time required to do those things. Removing PS3 support opens up a lot of time and money that can be spent in general gameplay development for content and QOL improvements instead of making sure the game doesn't crash because you were fishing in a certain spot or walked into an invisible wall while on a 2 seater mount with 1 person on it.

Dropping 32-bit PC support in addition to PS3 also shows that this is actually the reason for PS3 being dropped more than anything. Minimizing your platforms is the best way to ensure the best experience of the end user (this is why Apple constantly drops support for their old operating system versions).

It's kind of funny that Persona 5 is coming out for the PS3 in America still (I say still because a few JRPG publishers have stopped localizing their PS3 versions even though they're still making them, like Tales of Berseria), I recall Persona 4 being one of the last big PS2 titles along with Odin Sphere. Odin Sphere Leifthrasir came out last year and now we have Persona coming as what's probably one of the last big games for the console again.

Not going to argue about B titles on B platforms since that is not the point of my post which is talking about top tier brand games. I just looked up info and Persona 5 was a PS3 game they delayed release for because of PS4 development. That other game is just a port using PSN crossplay and not a new game. They "release games" for PSP, VITA, PS3 all the time but that does not mean they are newly developed games for that platform.

Windows is definitely now a lower playerbase platform which is why MS pushed DirectX12 to be Xbox One and Windows 10 compatible. New games are developed to work on both.

Anyway it comes down to doing a cost/benefit analysis which most people here seem to lack an understanding about. Continual support for PS3 is costing the developers money in areas they do not want to spend so they are removing support for it. That is really all there is to it.

You can play it through windows 10's xbox one remote play feature. It was released prior to their platform merge initiative though so I doubt it is directly playable on pc. MS is trying to push their unified platform since their PC sales are hurting which again comes down to money issues lol.
