    Hi Keith,

    For what it's worth, I think that 1000 to 2000 gil is very fair for level 18-20 items.

    Some possible problems with offering repair materials as reward:

    - The crafter needs to already have the repair material in order to perform the repair, and then will receive more of the material once the repair is completed.
    This means that if the crafter doesn't have the repair materials to begin with (even if their level is high enough), they cannot do anything for you unless you do a direct trade first.

    - I personally carry a lot of cotton, canvas and velveteen fents, plus various leather spetches, bone chips, nuggets and brass squares. To be completely honest, getting more of these items is not really much of an incentive. ^^;
    What I and many other crafters I know do appreciate are shards and crystals. If not gil, maybe shards and crystals might be worth trying?

    Fair enough. It was only a suggestion. ^^

    Just some general comments not directed at anyone in particular.

    It's natural that people will have different ideas about what a fair reward for their time and effort should be. There's no getting around that.

    If someone can't find people to repair their items, it's worth examining what they are offering in return for the work. You could try offering more gil, different items, or making friends who can help you. Both of those methods seem to work pretty well.

    Crafting and repairs are a fundamental part of FF14, and it's obvious that many people are fine with the current system so I doubt SE will be doing away with it. Finding ways to improve it are worth discussing, but wishing for it to be abolished is probably futile.

    Have a nice day!
