This thread is horrible and if you heard Yoshi-P last night at PAX he said "healers are there too heal not optimise DPS, so stick to healing".

Well that's a false equivalence if i've ever seen one. You should compare like things instead of apples to oranges.DPS is only there for damage. Why should they be burdened with having to dodge and lower their own DPS?
Tanks are only there to hold aggro and mitigate damage. Why should they be able to swap stances and do damage?
To the healers that only heal:
Go play SCH with auto Eos and run any dungeon. Tell me how much fun you're having.
It's more like a Ninja who won't Goad or a Bard who won't Ballad as those are tools to be used like a healer's tools to DPS. While I agree healers should DPS I also don't fault the ones who just want to heal, because you're not obligated to take them into your group and any duty matched dungeon isn't going to require their DPS to complete.
YoshiP is so out of touch with his own game he doesn't even realize that Diadem gear beats Anima even without substats, so I wouldn't pay much attention to his opinion on healing. If he wanted healers to only heal, why would his team make content so easy that you can solo heal it? I'm talking about A12S by the way, or Zurvan EX.
He added afterwards that if you could do your job(healing) and still have wiggle room, then feel free to dps but dont focus on it so much that you cannot keep your team alive.
So basically its entirely optional.

Also, a dead dps cant do any damage at all so their job is to dodge. If they get hit healers will ofc, do theirs and heal them, but if they take too much even a good healer cant save them. Also you cant dps or be raised if you fall off the platform. You cant really compare the that with healers dpsing.
Just one more Fire IV!
The whole argument could just be summarised to this. If you can DPS, you should DPS. If you can't (the situation requires intence healing, you're really low on MP or someone needs a raise etc.), then it's ok not to.

I I LOVE dpsing as a Sch! But on raid i prioritise healing. Cause my job is to keep everyone alive.
Ok yes I agree its "optional" honestly when I tank or DPS I don't mind whether a healer DPS's or not its of no concern to me but I'd never kick a healer for not DPS'n as long as they are keeping the party alive thats what matters imo, but there have been times where a Healer is so focused on pushing their numbers that its caused a party wipe and thats not cool.He added afterwards that if you could do your job(healing) and still have wiggle room, then feel free to dps but dont focus on it so much that you cannot keep your team alive.

I don't know... I mean as a DD main I try to DPS as a healer when possible, but when I run Dun Scaith with DDs that keep eating avoidable AOEs like it's a freaking buffet and I need to cast raise on a average of 4~8 times per battle, I'm really lazy to DPS towards the end of the instance. If they refuse to do their job (DPS while staying alive) properly, why should I put in the extra effort?

A healer who stands around and does not DPS when they are capable of, would never get a comm from me nor anyone I know. That's just being a bad healer.Ok yes I agree its "optional" honestly when I tank or DPS I don't mind whether a healer DPS's or not its of no concern to me but I'd never kick a healer for not DPS'n as long as they are keeping the party alive thats what matters imo, but there have been times where a Healer is so focused on pushing their numbers that its caused a party wipe and thats not cool.
