Healers that don't want to DPS are like DPSes who refuse to move out of AoEs.

DPS is only there for damage. Why should they be burdened with having to dodge and lower their own DPS?

Tanks are only there to hold aggro and mitigate damage. Why should they be able to swap stances and do damage?

To the healers that only heal:

Go play SCH with auto Eos and run any dungeon. Tell me how much fun you're having.

Then what about the healers that want to DPS but can't because the DD are eating aoes like an all-you-can-eat-buffet?

They are cool because they at least admit that DPSing is something a healer should do. Obviously you have to heal a lot in certain fights and adjust based on the party's needs.

But even in Savage, you find time to DPS.

Funny you say that, because just moments ago, as my static and I finally downed A11S, aside from a Combust I managed to cast perhaps 3 times in that entire fight, and not even with Cleric Stance on, I spent the entirety of it performing my primary function as the main healer. I'd rather keep my party alive to DPS than possibly overdo it trying to prove a point or shoot for what's effectively "extra" damage. Granted, if you can heal do with with minimal impact to actually being a healer, go for it. Personally speaking, survival went up, and progression went further when I decided to focus on my core role.

Then you likely were not playing optimally at all.

Probably not. But we finally downed it. Spare me the "optimal play" circle jerk. I want my team to win, and if that means DPSing harder, or not at all to ensure that they stay alive, I'll do what it takes. And I did. And we won.

And that's fine but healers who refuse to DPS at all are a plague on this game.

Anyone who refuses to even be willing to adapt is the real issue. My having to focus on purely healing left my off healer to DPS almost entirely, as she wanted to.

If you can do more but choose not to, that's wrong. If the situation calls to do less somehow, then that's what it takes.

Adaptability is pretty essential, especially when it will improve teamwork.

I DPS as a healer and let me tell you something.

SCH IS BORING AS HELL TO PLAY

I find the fun in the healing, not the DPS. I'm actually leveling it via SMN because I can't stand SCH.

I disagree personally. SCH is one of the most well designed classes in the entire game. You can a good mixture of impactful healing skills and DPS. And honestly, the only difference between SCH and SMN until 52 is Fester. They play the exact same way, except the Scholar is more DPS because Cleric Stance's +10%. Granted with the pet helping, SMN is better DPS.

But if you just heal as a Scholar? That's the most boring thing in this game. I've done Auto Eos in an expert dungeon. It is braindead easy. So when I hear that some healers simply do not DPS out of principle, I know they're playing a WHM or AST.
