No you don't have to play the game, but I know what I'm buying when I spend my money. You don't "have" to play the game at all.
However, you do have to pay to play the game. Just as you have to pay extra to get cash shop exclusives. This is not a free to play game.
Blurring the line more and more is a great idea for SE if it brings in more profit, but consumers have no real reason at all to continue to encourage it as it devalues our subscriptions.
I don't pay my sub and then complain afterwards I've paid it.
While I agree, still many players I wager will buy it and make the item a success. I admit I want it but unless I see a price drop, I highly doubt I'll pick it up. A couple bucks is fine but literally half of a months service for an emote, nada. The way to actually communicate this to SE is to not buy their products. Players that complain but also buy are effectively nullifying their complaint. As long as they can get people to say, "I don't like it, but I'm still going to buy it," all they hear is "I'm going to buy it." They've got no reason to stop the behavior at this point.
Well now you mentioned it aren't they planning to do just that soon? Jump potions and job leveling? Like I said I never meant to imply that SE were forcing me yet. Just that I really hope they don't start down that road. Not in those words, that was the implication.
You "feel" like you a being "forced" to like getting stuff in a F2P game that can offer very real character boost's and gear for a price.
If people contiune to buy them then full credit for making money (you know like businesses should) as the consumer is enfocing it.
Till this day, I have yet to buy anything from mogstation by myself.
Thing is, what are you communicating though? Nothing at all. People are still tripping over each other to buy it, and that's what's getting communicated, not the odd person or two over in the corner who are 'speaking with their wallet.' That's the thing that's frustrating.

And ultimately, if the people who are buying it make them enough money to get ahead of those who make good on the threats to stop playing the game altogether, they made the right choice by putting it in the Mogstation. People get what they want, SE gets more money.
I will never ask for something to be added to the Mogstation FIRST, but I don't mind the Mogstation itself. In fact until that Umbrella mount comes out I can say I have never bought anything from it. Once that comes out THEN I will be part of the problem as far as some are concerned.
It is beating a dead horse. We all know that this cannot be changed or alter. No matter what argument or what alternative we make. I do not believe this is a Dev desire, but an executive one. If this is coming from the upstairs then the Dev's like Yoshi P. cannot do much about it. How many countless posts have there been concerning the Mogstation and it's unfairness to sub accounts? Alot and none of it has changed the minds of the Devs or given even an inch. They have a Point tho, a lot of Stuff is getting implemented on the Mog Station and a Emote for 7$ is well quite insane one could say.
First Retainers that you have to pay Monthly for even if you just want more Slots for stuff to sell nor Inventory and ya, they suddenly create new Stuff and instant put it on the Mog Station.
Stuff like that should be implemented into the Game asap without requiring to pay Money for it.

Yup they are.
Now as to if that is a genuine boost or not who's to say, since the amount of work new players need to get though to reach newer expansions is vast now. A necessary evil to keep the game alive tbh.
Am sure some of the moral crusaders would be all on about how "unfair" etc it is. Yet these people would rather see the game die and get no new blood than get off their high horse. Many new players get burned out just getting into Heavensward, can you imagine doubling that amount of work with Heavensward?

I think the issue here is an assumption that all the mog station stuff would have been made and put into the game anyway if the cash shop didn't exist. I suspect in many cases that isn't true. If the Cash shop didn't exist then its not like we would just get all this in the game. It probably means we wouldn't get it at all. The amount they invest in this game will be in proportion to how profitable it is. Things like a Cash shop allow SE to make more revenue without raising the sub and this allows things like the server upgrades we are getting to be justified financially.
A better question do we get value for our sub. If the answer is yes then that should be fine.
