I never said rehaul the old that shit is done. Explain to me why 4.0 is linked to 3.55? Yet down the road people will be able to bypass it anyways. I honestly don't care if their is one or a billion fetch quests or if the chain is filler quests. I care that dev repeat the same mistakes. The fact that they have mentioned it has gated growth of the player base. That they originally said they wouldn't be repeating 3.0s gating and then said they would. Then they said they had a fix that involved cash.

And this is where your ignorant and one-sided type fails. Quote me where I said I supported potions. Point to me where I said it was ok to have potions. I am very deliberate in taking a neutral point of this topic, because, unlike you, I can see both sides of the argument. However, the slightest disagreement of your opinion (with me using facts, mind you) and you are quick to insult, berate, disrespect and spew your hate all over.

They're coming in the 4.X cycle.

The only reason they're not coming with 4.0 itself is because SE's competitors have set the precedent that you'd get one for free then.

So lets get some facts.

One, the MSQ needs to be continuous? They have not said this is a technical issue. So we can say it is a lore issue? Which is made null by the fact potion negates lore.

Two, Gating leads to decline in new subs. "While people will be able to catch up even easier after the release of Stormblood with the adjustments we will make to the amount of experience points obtained, it would still require a lot of time just to reach the starting point of Stormblood.

If an MMORPG is not able to recruit new players, all that is left is for the game to stabilize and eventually go on a decline. Three, gates abound. "In order to access the content added in Stormblood during early access, players will need to complete certain Heavensward quests." I didn't find the exact quote but 3.55 something I believe.

Four, money is involved. "While there is a difference between the item price in China and Korea, this potion is around 2500 Japanese yen as of right now." They have not officially said it will cost. But this reference has led people to believe it will be monetize. I will personally resub just to apologize if that is wrong and they were free. Do you believe they are free?

I am not against the potions. I don't think the affect us one way or another. It is as gloom and doom as some people think. I am against design decisions for cash. I used to buy EA sports games every year. Then the games shipped with cash store content at launch. While I would enjoy playing those games still. I don't support this system. It has greatly reduced the number of games I buy. Or it means I buy the game when the gold edition is out.

I feel the Story Skipper will have players sit through a 'Retrospective' cutscene of sorts, where the plot of ARR and HW is explained to the user leading up to 4.0. I'm sure it could all be explained in 10-20 minutes.

I wish FFXIV's expansions weren't continuous, but that's just what SE has decided, rather than do what FFXI did (excluding Zilart, every expansion had its own story that eventually all came together in Rhapsodies... sort of). So because of lore being a gate, SE had to make a skip potion so that new players/alts would be able to do current content with their friends... if they choose to.

That'd be the smart way to handle it.

Fact is someone who's going to buy a story skip like that already acknowledges they aren't interested in the story. Or if they are but want to skip it anyway, there are solutions for that too.

Gating off expansions with other expansions creates an issue. Maybe not now really, but it will a few expansions from now. So why not nip it in the bud? I played through the entire story because I was playing the game. Most of it is decent... some of it is stupid... some of it is busywork. I don't really care if someone else who isn't me wants to skip it. Why should I?

do you like play the game? the Garlean and Ascian stories aren't over. the only way 4.0 can be not linked to what's before it is if they completely ignore those 2 story elements or if they hard stop them in 3.56 as in Zodiark gets summoned and a meteor hits Garlemald and wipe out the entire Empire.

it just makes no sense to hard stop the storyline now so that you can have a fresh start at 4.0. how do you explain all of a sudden we go to a place with no Garleans? where the Ascians have no influence? they can't split off the MSQ until they conclude those 2 storylines which they've mapped out through 5.x which presumably is the Garlemald expansion.

the potions do not negate the lore. whether you use the potion or not, the WoL did all of those things from 2.0-3.55.

Just call them adventurers who tag along later to become WoL's since hydalyn got stronger for eating the WoD's worlds light....IDK its not hard to introduce "awakened" people at a later time during the whole story I mean its not like everyone has a legacy tattoo(read this literally its my only point mentioning) so where is the lore in that?

I think Id be ok with 1 jump potion, no cash shop. This isnt china where people are paying for internet by the half minute.

it is hard to introduce an entire new breed of player characters because you have to rewrite the dialog with them for all of the existing NPCs.

legacy players get like 1 extra line of dialog every 2 patches because that was 5 years ago and most of the NPCs that were around back then you rarely interact with.
