Naoki Yoshida's Comment in Regard to Jump Potions/Boost Potions

First and foremost, it is not pay to win as that inherently implies people needs win something. Themepark MMOs whose progression content is entirely based on grinding endgame gear cannot be pay to win by simply selling levels. I could hand over my account-- full BiS-- and not only would whoever took it have no clue how to play Dragoon, the gear I have will be completely obsolete the following raid tier. Pay to win would necessitate being able to purchase current endgame gear or some sort of power boost that provided an advantage otherwise unobtainable through reasonable play. Considering the jump potion won't even skip players to max level, it offers them nothing except a story skip.

I dont actually see the difference. If you can skip to x point they might as well sell the latest tome gear in the cash shop so you can go straight to raiding.grinding to gear up ilevel requires alot of the same time to get your level up, youre gonna be running dungeons ad naseum.. Just because it "seems" different, its only that way if you dont look at the system for what it is.

If tome gear, specifically 'new/current' (the ones that cap per week at 450) tome gear were to be available for purchase on the MogStation, then that would be pay to win. That's actually giving players an unfair advantage, whereas the Level Boost potion is just boosting you to the previous level cap (and since this will be after SB's release, Level 60). Those who use it will still need to level their Job to level 70.

If this were still 1.0 where experience points did reach a cap and you stopped gaining exp, then this Boost would actually fall into the "Pay to Win" category.

You're equating allowing players to skip 4 years of content that will be outdated at the time the potions will be released anyway, to handing out raid-tier gear which even up-to-date players who don't raid don't have access to.
How are these two similar at all??

The potions will just enable new players to not be entirely left out and not feel like utter crap when they join a new FC and everyone's out leveling 60-70 while they're stuck queuing for sastasha, wondering when they'll be able to run latest content with their new friends.

yeah that doesn't make any sense. They're only allowing you to pay to skip old outdated stuff that no one is going to care about anymore so that new players can get to the current & fun stuff. Like that's it. No other comparisons need to be made.

Friends? FC? So we dont join FC that are helpful? I wouldnt call them friends if thats how things are run, and a FC full of people that wont do content with you is not a FC you want to be a part of, honestly. But I digress, your point is made. There have been boatloads of suggestions that would help speed the process up, and allow group participation, but the only option we have is this so its whatever.

It's not a matter of wether the FC is helpful or not... :/

For example, take an average player, with roughly two hours a day to play, facing a new expansion and a FC full of new people in their early levels.
You, the veteran on a tight schedule, might want to help all of them with their endless questions and starter dungeons, but you've been repeating the same old dungeons for months on end and are itching to try out some of the newst content everyone in your linkshells is talking about.

What do you do?

EDIT: I'm sorry, I don't know what other options have been suggested and thus cannot comment on that - I just jumped onto this thread and I'm not going to read 100+ pages of comments. :/

I disliked it at first, but after taking a minute to understand what this potion does, I can see that its not all bad.

- Players will only be able to skip 1-60 content at most, they still need to do Stormblood.
- They can level all their classes, by buying this potion. I disliked this, but its their money and if they want to spend 20-25 euro per potion to level a class, then its their money.
- We already have clueless players who do not read what their skills do, the Jump Potion users will not be worse. We might even get players who realy want to improve, but not want to do the 1-60 content.

In the end, bads will be bads, if one doesnt want to improve, they will not improve, may they be a Jump Potion user or not.

4 years of outdated content is a misleading way of wording that considering pretty much nothing else is really mandatory. No one has to run Crystal Tower, Ex Primals, Void Ark, Binding Coil and Alex.

With how this community is with anti bonus in trails, letting content die like its scum on the bottom of your shoe, a jump potion works perfectly in this game. Its no point in running story for instance if you cant do thordan extreme at the end of hw, or you cant get in to doing nidhogg extreme. The jump potion is a perfect fit for this games community quick and fast out with the old in with the new.

This is no single player game. It's a game where you play with other people, and it's only natural to want to run content with everyone else.

MSQ is something that will take a long time to complete, wether you have any interest in watching cutscenes or not. Running back and forth, carrying flower corpses in your inventory... all fun, but I doubt it'll be very engaging for new players to be doing that while being left out of what everyone else is doing.
