I think many people are forgetting this. There are two potions.
They also mentioned that buying both potions will not be cheap.
Jump potion will only make you unlock all your skills/abilities but not skip MSQ.
Story jump potion will only assume that you unlocked everything until stormblood MSQ but not level your character.
"BAAAAAARD!" - 2018
Believe it or not, there are people in the world that don't know the names of every country's currency. So if they just said yen, someone like that could be confused.
This is a non-issue where I'm concerned. Like it or not, it's a sign of the times, and I can't blame them for wanting to be competitive. If the potions are the difference between new players picking the game up or not (and paying extra for it to boot), it's a good business decision to implement them, and backlash be damned.
I don't see them as being something that will impact my day-to-day play, but if I'd had one available when I returned to the game and bought Heavensward with still had several patches worth of MSQ to go before I could access it, I'd have jumped at the chance. More importantly, it might have stopped me from burning out and quitting for a few months again.
Very negative feelings on this.
Level skipping does not force people to learn their classes, and then dilutes the pool of experienced players in endgame and near-endgame content. People need to learn their rotations and how to play in easier content.
This is a pay-to-win option. There's no way around it, and you cannot hide that fact. Some people will gain an unfair advantage via spending real money. THIS IS NOT OK.
Honestly, this also dilutes and disrespects the amount of time others have spent to gain certain rewards in the game. Also, if I buy three of these, does this fulfill half of the requirements for the mentor program because I can dump $60?
.....
Instead, continue to provide incentive for high-level players to run older content. Wonderous Tails, Roulettes, item and supply drops from older dungeons and raids all are perfectly fine.
In addition, you could provide gear that gives a generous XP boost under level 50 or so. A helm that gives a 2x boost to XP under L50 (or L60) would be far more fitting and in the spirit of the game.
FWIW I continue to play FFXIV because it has NOT given in to some stupid free-to-play cash shop idea. I want a paid subscription MMO that funds itself from that and glamour/cosmetic cash purchases ONLY.
As long as the potion is not cheap like 18$ cheap then its fine with me.
Well roughly $22 if the conversion is correct on google. However that is $22 for only 1 job, then another $22 to skip the story. So roughly 3 months of service, in which the player could have leveled and done the story themself (if they really wanted) within a month or so. Granted if they really wanna spend like $290 to level all jobs and skip the story....
