You forgot maps, hunts and sightseeing log. So 8 things, 6 of which include fighting monsters. But I guess there's room for more in a big world.

How do I feel about Stormblood? Excited of course! We are getting new jobs, more main story and new side stories, new land to explore and new battle content. I'm also happy that we're getting more houses and a transfer system even though I'll probably stay in my current house. Inventory is getting expanded, existing jobs and battle system are getting refined and we'll be able to swim and dive. That's honestly a lot of QoL features at once. I may be in the minority but I also enjoy the job leveling process, so I'm looking forward to the 170 levels ahead.

I honestly wonder how many people complaining about same old same old came from XI, where it was farm items to spawn NMs to farm items to spawn NMs.
I was a long time Vet of XI and I was thinking the same thing. The feel I get from the negative people makes gave me the same vibe.

Generally good MMORPG do improve their game features in each expansion (FFXI included) and that didn't happen in heavensward. The main difference between FFXI and FFXIV (because you talk about that) is that the game design of the battle system of the former game was vastly deeper than the one from FFXIV. Also, don't forget a lot of people have been supportive in regard to FFXIV in 2.0 despite the game's shortcoming because SE had little time to salvage the game from the 1.0 situation, but a lot of these players actually expected SE to keep improving the game at each expansion's release (as it is actually the norm of the MMORPG market).

When 3 fanfest occurs and there are almost no talks about gameplay, something feels wrong.

I thought FFXIV did a good job improving the game features with Heavensward. Classes got entirely new rotations and mechanics which became highly integral to their playstyle, it was playing entirely different classes in some cases. As for why we don't have any details on Stormblood's updates, that was answered in the live letter, they'll be making changes and tuning them up to 4.0's launch, so can't really share any details until late May.

I don't really see XIs battle system as being deep. Sure it had a lot of complexity, but on the surface, it was spam most powerful magic attack enemy is weak to, or spam auto attacks until most power WS, then repeat.

If I would follow your pattern, then I guess I would buy and eat everything I see without even checking whats inside. Ofcourse you want to know whats in for you before you buy something, especially when the price is 200$ for a CE.

I don't think you really delved into FFXI battle system if you trully believe that. In FFXI the gameplay of each individual class did vary depending on the size of your group, the content you were doing and the composition of your group. In FFXIV you're doing the same rotation on every encounter (the only difference being if you need to do single target healing/dps or AOE). I m not saying FFXI system was perfect (as the melee couldn't really melee on raid bosses due to how TP generation did work) but still there was something, as opposed to how dull FFXIV has become on these aspects since heavensward (in the 2.X series of patches, the gameplay was more team oriented).

Also FFXI had support roles, which made the game much more interesting.

I thought FFXIV did a good job improving the game features with Heavensward. What most players fail to understand is that micromanagement on the individual player scale cannot make the bulk of the gameplay in a MMORPG (at least not if said micromanagement is almost the same on every encounter). People play in a group for a reason. If the differences between 2 DPS jobs is only their relative output and how they play on the individual player side (eg the current situation in FFXIV), then there is a huge issue in the game (and that's why PVE content is stale).

I saw on reddit someone saying that parsers are needed so people can tell good DPS from bad ones in a group. This is another consequence of this game design. When the only thing a class can bring to the group is their sheer output, then there is a problem.

In that case there wouldnt be that Gap which even Yoshida mentioned between elitists and casuals. Checking the parses tells me something must went wrong there. I do not know if that is actually an improve...

There will always be that gap, but I suppose this comes down to a question of what each individual considers an improvement on the game. Is it updating classes to perform differently? Is it making the classes perform so there is no difference between Elitists and Casuals except for the content they -choose- to participate in?

I do actually miss FFXI's content quite a bit though, it felt like being part of LS (or let's say FC) was more meaningful.
You'd go out as an actual FC, fight together, take as many people as you can.

Endgame was a real FC activity, now it's mostly just a glorified chat channel
