Now that we have the cross server partyfinder this seems more and more realistic.
Perhaps the next step is applying it to the open world, so say i on cerberus can see a partymember from odin in Dravanian Forelands. Then the only hindrance would be the inablility to trade.

That could be openened as well, cross server trade- and with it a cross server Market boards. The only thing i foresee being a huge problem is server economy, but even that would most likely stabilise within a month or so, as it essentiall would work like one huge server, but with character specific data being segmented into smaller servers to spread out the load.

I convince my FC to collectively migrate to a dead server. We buy up stuff to sell and make back all our gil and then some. Open world is empty, but hey, we all have pretty houses now, right?

With the exception of housing, pretty much everything on balmung is dirt cheap. My highest crafter on my main isnt even at 50 yet, and I can make 1 or 2mil per week just by selling WT prizes + Squadron loot + anima components. If I pinch pennies even I'll have enough gil to try gunning it for a mansion when 4.0 drops.

Hunts are easy if you join a hunt LS/hunt party. I honestly don't see how people would struggle with them unless they're trying to go it completely alone.

Dunno bout raiding cause I only play with friends so hey theres a problem maybe.

    Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.

Only if they should be getting a commendation.

As much as I want to agree with you, I don't.
I dislike high pop servers because my isp isn't lightning fast like everyone else and I hate crowds with a passion, even in games. I'll stay on good ol walking dead Mateus and stay very far from Balmung and Gilgamesh.

Or they stay on Balmung where this already exists. Plenty of players who like the massive communities only seen on higher pop servers. It would take a mass exodus or an influx of new players to replicate that. To your prior argument, I made several million selling baby gear. When 3.4 dropped, I milked raiders with materia I'd be saving up from Beast Tribes. If you take the time and pick markets, you can make money on Balmung easily without being a 4* crafter.

This also excludes Linkshells. I have plenty of friends outside my FC, all of which I lose by transferring to a dead server. And for what? I have a house, I have gil and I prefer a larger community.

True some teens do but you know what if the person is 18+ and talks sexually with a someone under 18 that is illegal. Not all teens are sexually active either and wants to see that stuff.

I believe that the main issue behind the ERP complaints is mostly about the fact that most people would rather not see it publicly. Emphasis on "publicly". The opinions on whether this should be a punishable act are extremely varied, but I personally feel that these things should be kept private through Tells, linkshells and whatnot. I don't play on Balmung, and I have not come across such things during my time playing the game on other servers either, but I would definitely not want to see that sort of thing in Say or Shout. Players should not have to block specific chat channels to avoid it, either. That is my opinion on the matter.

FFXIV is still an MMO, expect it to happen no matter what the games name is.

That said...*MMO Beginners Guide 101 when first logging into a game"

    1) Turn off general global chat or filter it to a hidden tab
    2) In areas with questionable reputation, Ul'dah, Goldshire, etc. Conduct your questing business and get out. Turn on selective hearing on anything in /say channel.
    3) If you find yourself forced to be around certain players for an extended period of time, blacklist, forget and keep about your business.

Easy easy easy and all the tools you need are already in the games.

No! Not everyone wants to be on a jam packed server. Some people are more comfortable on a mid / small population server and try to avoid the larger populations.
