Once I cut that from my routine, I've been gaining tomes significantly quicker.

    Efficient? Probably not, but then again, this is a game, I don't play for efficiency I play to enjoy myself. o3o So if I get tired/bored of running a particular thing, I just switch to something else. The gear ain't going anywhere, so why rush?

    I could make my brain bleed from trying to get a tome weapon within 7 weeks, OR I could NOT do it, use the grinding time to play something more fun, and later down the line, spend little to no effort to get that same item.

    I feel no incentive to work towards something, when that something is quickly invalidated or becomes meaningless pretty quickly.
    When I'm being rewarded for not playing the game, that is what I will do.
    It depends on what incentivizes you within the game. I, for one, wouldn't want to wait nearly four months before having adequate gear to step into Savage. Therefore, tomestones are worth the time investment, especially since it is incredibly easy to cap. On the other hand, if you are content waiting to try harder content or don't care to at all, then obviously the grind has little appeal. But that isn't necessarily a fault of the game. You simply aren't motivated to compete to the extent other players are. That being said, I do think the system needs some adjustments.

    Miss Big Game Hunting with fc buddies... the same buddies that dont play anymore for the same reason.

    Dont mind farming or grinding honestly. I really dont. The tomes are just getting old. Weekly caps getting old. Creating difficulty modes hard/ex/savage... its just old. Surely theres another way.

    I will admitt upfront im an old ffxi player. I dont expect this game to stray from its course but when i look back on ffxi things like sky, dynamis, znm, hnm, sea,... etc... these were all creative farms and grinds. More often than not it wasnt even always about the reward or grind itself but about the teamwork and fun/experience towards the goal.

    This isnt a quiting thread. Just wondering if im the only one. I dont know how much longer ill be playing at this rate. I like this game but at the same time every new tomes patch just feels like a burden.

    I wish i could timetravel back to my ffxi days with mah buddies... good times...
    Dynamis, Sky, Sea... you mean the instances where people played them for literally months with little to show for it when considering rewards gained vs rewards sought out? Hell, I remember a couple of in-game buddies who never got what they were after, despite knowing them like the back of their hand through double digit months of grinding. Yeah, No thanks. Tell me, do you remember the Promyvions? If there is anything XIV needs to replicate, it is XI instances like those. Chains of Promathia was one of the most brilliant games ever released by SE.

    Going into endgame as RDM is half the reason why I left FFXI, and half the reason why I avoid them in XIV. However, it wasn't all such a negative experience. XI provided the most memorable experiences for me out in the open world. Just meeting random people and grouping up for whatever. Nowadays I can't even count how many times I have saved the ass of someone failing a FATE, and they just take off afterwards without saying anything. In XI you would have either acquired a new guild mate, or joined theirs. You're not going to get the same kind of FFXI experience with today's gamers. It's all about getting to where you want to go asap since it is constantly shoved in player's faces to catch up to current content and ignore the old. Suffice to say, the old content is where the fresh experiences happen.

    Potions coming soon to further detach from this antiquated playstyle. /"Gemina waves farewell"

    The Problem is the "critical mass".
    At first we had not much content and SE needed caps or lockouts to balance things.
    It was fine at that time, but then new content were added...
    The more content we got, the harder it was to balance with caps and lockouts because there was "too much to do".
    While players liked to do Hildibrand, they were falling back on relic because of lockouts,
    while doing crafting they were falling back on raid because of training time...

    SE designed one period for one job and one gearset... that has become a problem when the "critical mass" was reached.

    If you want them to remove the cap then people will gear up easily, which is bad.

    Gearing is already fast in this game.

    Blue = Easy to get.
    Red = Requires effort.

    255 weapons - PotD || Sophia EX
    260 weapons - Scriptures + A12N || A10S
    265 weapons - Zurvan EX
    270 weapons - Scriptures + A11S
    And lets not forget the Anima.

    250 sets - Alexander Creator Normal || Crafted gear
    260 sets - Scriptures || Dun Scaith
    270 sets - Alexander Creator Savage || 24 man raid tokens || Hunts

    You will notice red is faster because it requires effort while blue is more grind heavy.
    In the end, both (Savage only for red) are locked behind weekly caps.
