That's really unfortunate, especially since we already have the option to do exactly that with the items currently available in-game.
And you might not like seeing catboys dressed this way, but I'm not too crazy about Au Ra girls in bikinis, and yet I'd never have the nerve to tell someone they shouldn't be allowed to wear one.
I suppose I should've said I don't want to see more catboys in more skirts. That's really unfortunate, especially since we already have the option to do exactly that with the items currently available in-game.

And Au Ra girls in bikinis aren't crossdressing. Crossdressing is way out of societal norms and tends to deeply bother people who don't care for it themselves, which happens to be the majority of people if real life and MMO trends are anything to go by.
It's your right to wear what you want, and it's my right to be bothered by it. Not that I can help it. So I'd prefer to see less crossdressing ability added. Feminine clothing just doesn't look right on males.

I want more miniskirts for all![]()
And skimpy sexualized clothing doesn't look right on something as small and child-like as an Au Ra female or a Lalafell female. Between the two, I find cross-dressing far more tolerable, but I'm not going to go around telling SE to ban skimpy/sexualized stuff on females of those two races, because different societies have different standards, different people have different preferences, and as long as no one in real life is being hurt, I don't see what business of mine it is giving an opinion to restrict what happens in an MMORPG.
Au Ra easily pass for a small framed adult female, or at least of age. Lalafell are different enough looking from humans to be easily distinguishable from them, though I see your point there. Justifying one thing that bothers people by using another thing that bothers people is pointless though. Crossdressing is a completely different issue.
Public crossdressing is frowned upon in most societies and is typically only done for comedic purposes because it makes the majority of people uncomfortable to some degree. It's also not something people who are bothered by can do anything about either short of closing their eyes. So it does hurt in a way.
There's also the argument of immersion. Men player characters in neon pink skirts and stockings and the like vs not a single NPC that's doing it in a non-comedic way. Crossdressing doesn't fit with the aesthetic of the game at all. In a poppy kind of game? Maybe, but not here.

I'm not saying I disagree when I see characters glamoured in a way that breaks immersion for the setting. I'm just saying, what makes one person uncomfortable doesn't affect another. Consider in Japan that cross-dressing is actually on the common side; there are lots of boys who cross-dress as girls and pass for it as well due to their natural appearance, and its generally accepted. Its probably something frowned upon in a place like Ishgard, but I can imagine Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa would both be fairly open minded. We see plenty of examples of NPCs who fit into the LGBTQ category of sexuality without issue. You meet two when you start the Nym dungeon, a Miqo'te and Hyur male. I believe there are some female couples as well, and you even have a male lalafell in the Drybone Inn who is in a bed sleeping and mutters about Rhauban making him his Sultana.
I don't see a reason to gender-lock outfits. It creates a significant imbalance in the availability of glamours for characters. Females are already extremely favored in the game, having more genderlocked outfits, and more unique outfits than males.
Well, if they want to make crossdressing with every outfit possible in Japan's version of the game, I wouldn't care. Though the men in XIV don't pass for females very well like you say happens in Japan. Which might partly be why it's acceptable in Japan. If men in Japan were on average taller and more bulky, maybe it wouldn't be so accepted.
But seeing it bothers me and bothers many others in the west so personally, I would strongly prefer it didn't increase. Men can have their masculine skimpy clothes and normal outfits, females can have theirs. We don't have to have everything open to everyone to have diversity.
