Given that SAM files are in the game and BLU files are not, it would seem the folks who picked up on the nearly identical way Sam Raimi is written in katakana to the job Samurai weren't reaching so hard after all.

I don't agree with this. The files having SAM in them is not proof of anything really. Especially considering that SAM had been intended to be put in instead of DRK, but they decided against it because they had just released NIN not long before.

Yoshi-P's hints are much more direct. DRK was Batman... the Dark Knight. MCH was 007. RDM was the Scarlet Witch.

So the meaning behind the Spiderman shirt is going to be much more direct than an obscure reference to the director of a few movies involving Spiderman, IMO. BLU seems much more likely, especially considering the New Year's message and the fact that a hero who is bitten by a spider gains that spider's powers. Something that is much more direct a reference.

Given that we've had certain Relic Files in the game in the past that were there specifically to troll dataminers, nothing is confirmed until its announced. No one is going to argue the point that Blue Mage is the obvious choice for a Spiderman Hint. There are plenty of more obvious choices for Samurai. Silver Samurai, anyone? So, yes, the Sam Raimi thing is reaching. Very bad reaching at that. The shirts have all been pretty obvious from the get go. If the Spiderman references Samurai, we will have an example of the exception.

And Yoshi wasn't wearing the Samurai version of Spiderman on his shirt. I do think Samurai will be added this expansion, I just don't see Spiderman being a reference to it.

However, let's try this from another angle...

What super hero would you use to drop an -obvious- hint referencing Blue Mage, if not Spiderman? I'm curious what the alternatives are, since Samurai's alternatives get brought up plenty enough.

The Samurai Spiderman is just a figure made by Bandai. They made a Samurai Batman too.

The festival you are referring to in Japan is one of making Samurai spiders (a type of real life spider) fight. Zero reference to Spiderman.

The files don't mean anything, and are ridiculously suspicious that they would be added in 3.5.


As I said, Yoshi-P's shirts have always been very direct, so it makes very little sense for him to make an extremely obscure reference.

The best possible guess regarding jobs is this:

1. We already know about RDM, and that it is a caster DPS. So we know there will be no other dps role.

2. During the marketing and media appearances for heavensward, Yoshi talked, somewhat jokingly, about how the Dev team said they would kill him if he made them do 3 jobs in one release again. He talked about having to write all the quests for each, develop abilities for each, gear for each of them, plus adding 10 new levels on for all the other jobs as well and he elaborated on how taxing it was for the dev team to do 3 new jobs at the same time, and hinted that they likely wouldnt do that again. Because of this, I personally do not expect to see a 3rd job this time around.

3. While I personally felt the cinematic trailer hinted at dancer, because of the movements and the attire of the girl in red, I think common sense dictates that the most logical addition would be a tank, not a healer. Tanks are always the shortage in queues, everyone knows this. Imagine the bottleneck in the duty finder if they release a new dps and new healer with no new tank. I think this plays a big part in the decision making on new jobs. SE take these kinds of things into big consideration when designing things. I think the only way we see a new healer is if they manage to do 3 jobs again. I dont think there is any way SE goes with dps and healer for new jobs and leaves out tank. The spiderman shirt also I think hints at Samurai more than anything else.

4. We know they already worked on Samurai, and it was on the table for heavensward they said, but they went with DRK instead. They already have assets on SAM, so I think it makes sense.


Given these 4 points, I feel pretty confident we will see just 2 new jobs, and that the 2 jobs will be RDM, caster DPS and Samurai, Tank. I would love to learnthat the dev team pulled off 3 new jobs again though, and if there is a 3rd, I think its definitely Dancer, Healer.

Why is the spiderman shirt not a reference to beastmaster :O You know, taming the beast and all. And FF 14 has a lot of beasts. I just don't know where and how Beastmaster could maintain a beast in dungeons or primal fights :/ He would have to summon one and well that's a bit like summoner, but maybe beastmaster could make up for what summoner can't do as it is stuck since day 1 with 3 egis. Beastmaster could summon beasts that he captured like throughout his travels across eorzea... but I think I'm dreaming here and reminiscing ff 11 times where you walked around with your scorpion and whatnot =) I know I'd love it though but I'm sure it will never come, beastmaster wasn't very popular in ff 11 and sure wouldn't be with the ff 14 crowd *sigh
