Or, another way to look at it ... take a break and then get punished by the mass of time-consuming grinds that you haven't been keeping up with in your absence so that you're no longer viable in the content you like to play.

Complaints and requests are always gonna be on the forefront, no matter how good the game is and how friendly the community.
Barely anyone comes to the forum only to say "I'm so happy here! I never need anything new ever again!". People usually come because they have an issue.
The problem is when the requests become only a forefront for spreading toxicity...because to some that's a way to vent or because it's "cool" right now
And tbh, I'm a bit worried that that's the case a little bit too much lately.
I'm pretty sure though that the dev team is aware that players are happy about things even when the players instantly go to complain about the next one as soon as one is fixed.
It wouldn't hurt to see a bit more apprechiation for the work already done from time to time though.
Like, I'm sure it was a big effort to finally fix the problem that you couldn't queue with a chocobo out, but I not once saw anyone go "hey, awesome, thanks!".
Everyone just went "well okay, now that we have that, why is XY not fixed yet?". Same with egi glamours, chinese dress, whatever was a big topic but once we got it we all just took it and went right back to complaining.
Which, again, is fine and absolutely needed in an MMO so it keeps improving, just....a bit more apprechiation would be nice :/

That just shows how much people care about this game or rather, how much they are enjoying it.
If everything's fine, there's no need to complain on the forums.
And we don't need a bunch of circlejerk threads whose sole purpose is to repeat how great the game is all the time.
This ^
I have honestly never played an mmo where the DEVs were so approachable and listened to our requests and want. Not just fluff like the Glams I go on about, but mechanical changes, adding Savage modes for the players who wanted challenges, overhauls of problem classes/job. All those and more started from someone posting a want/need/request/complaint on these forums and the DEVs taking the time to look at it and try and make the game we want.
Its honestly FFXIV's best feature.

Generally, feedback is good and can at times be important, but a lot of what I read is from people that have just been around too long and should be having a break.
I've seen the same thing in many other games forums, grizzled vets that just cant let go, they have done pretty well everything, getting bored and start taking regular swipes at whatever mundane thing annoys them at the time.
Its sad really, but it is what it is.
The ultimate irony is a thread complaining about the community complaining.

Considering the numerous other threads you've started over the past few months, have you ever looked up the definition of "hypocrisy" in the dictionary at all?
Pot, meet kettle.
You're good at the game? You're an elitist.
You're using a parser to better yourself? Elitist.
You're making suggestions on how someone can improve themselves? E l i t i s t.
You wipe a farm party constantly but you're having fun playing your way. Nah you're fine dude.
This community astounds me at times.
If complaint threads are more common than positive threads, there definitely is a problem. The problem might not necessarily be the community though.....
Complaints are valuable to have, it means people care enough to make their voices heard. If they're very common, it means there must be a reason for so many to take the time to complain about something. Apathy would be more concerning.
And if everyone was positive all the time, let's be honest, changes would not happen when they need to. The forums are for free discussion, if you can't handle that, then maybe take a break from the forums for a bit.

There are always people on forums complaining. There are also always people telling others to stop complaining. The real irony is that that second group are usually the first to complain when they actually have something to complain about. Just because you're perfectly happy with the game at present it does not give you grounds to dismiss any criticisms that others may have.
You've made this exact same thread before in the past, I believe.
