Um, what?
If other games push out patches relatively quickly without many problems, why can't it be done here?

The thing is, they DON'T put them out relatively quickly without many problems. WoW patch maintenance is about 6-8 hours at a time... but there will be repeated maintenance the next couple of weeks (and usually a few on off-days) along with random restarts/crashing issues... and STILL manages to be bug-riddled for months. I would far prefer a 24 hour solid downtime and few issues afterwards.

I'm still waiting on that better argument. You're just feeding fuel to the fire at this point.
Or was that your intention in posting on this thread?
It did get a lot better over the years since then, but to claim that they are more swiftly pushing error-free patches (even after 10 years) is just silliness :P
The day I unsub from WoW is when the heavens sang to me: "PRAIIIIIIISE THEEEE LOOOOORD"
Your only argument was to give me links about networking, in what I assume was an attempt to explain why it takes so long. Only that it doesn't take nearly as long in most other games as it does here, so you didn't prove anything except that some companies are better at handling it than others.
What is there for me to argue against?
Well gee Idk. The arguments I presented that you blatantly ignored.
- The size of this patch.
- The amount of processes that can create bugs.
- The amount of time it takes to check for bugs, despite a program doing this at an amazing speed for hours.
If your class said anything about how a MMORPG works. It's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than just networking.

Chances are that it has something to do with SE having to go through Sony to get the patch out on the PS4/3 as well, which might take up some time.
Games that are exclusive to PC, like WoW, don't have this issue, meaning it takes less time to push content patches out.
The only thing that is distributed on the PS3/4 version of the game is the launcher and the base game and expansion. The patches are all downloaded using SE's own infrastructure. So to get the patch on PS3/PS4 we all need to launch the launcher, it updates, relaunch, login with SE account, patch starts downloading. Same as on PC.
The launcher itself "ffxivboot" is small so probably doesn't take an overly long time to get through whatever certification process Sony uses.
(super serious)I don't know what to put here so I've put this here as a placeholder until I figure it out.(super serious)
