I've made two outfits that I love, from dungeon gear. But I keep switching back from them simply because I can't dye them the color I want. I have 4 go-to colors. One of the outfits has been around since the release of HW, and it's not very popular. So I don't have high hopes of them adding in a craftable, dyeable version. The other was just added the last patch. So I'm hopeful for that one eventually. Though, it doesn't seem too popular still. I would love the heck out of it, if only I could dye the blue part of it.

You cannot force creativity on people anyway, it's a trait just like intelligence is.. Some people have bundles, some have none and most are middling between. Smugness over thinking alot of people liking one thing and you wanting to "break the mold" coz you are so special points out an character flaw I find far more lacking than a percieved lack of creativity.

Ohh you like a popular video game? Why arn't you writing a book or painting a masterpiece? That must hurt your hipster sensibilities... Or does this rule only extend to other people and what you personally do and do not like? :P
Please point out a contradiction. I referenced my original post about personal glamour no-no's when talking about how I would find another person's glamour boring. I pointed out what I thought was boring or otherwise lacking in creativity/consistency because someone asked. There is not a contradiction between people liking something to the point of ubiquity, and other people finding that "something" boring because it's so ubiquitous. People are allowed to think differently, they're called opinions. The thread discusses why so many players are content to wear the same thing as the next person (the previously mentioned "ubiquitous" example).

Specifically to being smug: Let's say, you like coffee, I like tea. I can think, "Man, you don't know what you're missing out on", because that's my opinion. I can think tea is the best thing in the world, and think you and all the other coffee drinkers have bad taste. I'm allowed to think that because it's my opinion, just as it might be your opinion to think my tea tastes like laundry water, and you assume I have bad taste.

My ring? I like color over plain white (diamond with color flashes, but otherwise white). My ring reflects that. And you know what? I picked it for myself because that's what I wanted to do, and I love the thing. If I had a diamond, I wouldn't feel the same way because I prefer color over plain white (the purple sapphire gives me color flashes, too, and alexandrite changes color depending on the lighting, it's really neat).

I think you're getting an entirely different tone from what I intended, that's fine, I never was here to appeal to you or change your mind. I stated my opinion in the thread and pointed out an example of someone I FELT was exactly the type of person this thread is about. Then they and I had a dialog, not terribly inflammatory I think.

Ok great, you picked it and liked it. Other people picked their's and liked them... Referring to those people as lesser just because of their choice is the flaw I was pointing out. Well when it comes to something so harmless as what they are wearing. You don't have to like diamonds (using your example) but you don't have the lump everyone who does together in one group and assume they are not creative people.

Make no mistake I am a firm believer in individuality, but how someone looks and what they are wearing is the last thing I think of when I think of someone as an individual.

I simply have as many outfits as I can.
If someone else is wearing it I won't be like OMG nooo i'm not unique!!!
So i don't mind, If could personalize the character to my heart's content then probably I would try to have an unique look. But being 1 of 4 faces, with 1 of 16 hair styles (not ssure just a proximate number) won't allow me a lot of unique features even to in between the eyes/ears, size, etc seems like a decent amount of options they are not. most of character's of the same race looks the same in different hair and color. Same with armors. Some armors/clothes are nice, some aren't.

So we agree everyone can have an opinion. Somewhere along the line you take my personal opinion of others, and myself, and conflate it to mean that somehow I'm acting out my thoughts. If I think the oft referred to thavnarian bustier and how ubiquitous and boring it is to see on a large part of the playerbase, I'm NOT somehow policing them. I think it's boring, and I say it's boring in a thread about how another person thinks the same way about said bustier (and similar glamours).

"They're not mindless clones unless they're all the same! But I think there's a certain kind of mindset out there that plays like this is a single-player game ("You don't pay my subscription!" lol) and is very predictable and boring. Is that necessarily bad? No, not at all, but it's definitely boring and uninspired."

I wrote this in my initial post (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post3996078). I never said they were bad people, but when talking specifically about glamour, saying that something very, very common is boring and uninspired is not untrue. Saying these person lacks creativity (remember, in a discussion about glamour), is not untrue. The same with rings, if we're talking specifically about rings, and everyone has a diamond solitaire or diamond with diamond halo, it's so common and boring due to it's ubiquity. If the women themselves picked the ring (so we don't assume someone else made the choice for them), then in a discussion about creativity, we can say her choice wasn't very creative. People can say this positively, saying she chose a classic style, but said style is also lacking creativity.

I am also a firm believer in individuality, but this conversation is specifically about people who wear common glamours. I'm not judging their character, just fashion sense. o.o

There's a reason those glamours are common though... and it's not because all those people are "sheep" or "unoriginal" or "lacking creativity". For most its because the alternatives suck (in their opinion).

I think maybe you could've been more clear about that, rather than insulting a person's tastes because of glam color. Well, maybe you didn't feel you were being rude, but your point sort of got drowned out from the blunt disrespect thrown at her face lol.

Your entire topic is self-defeating. You keep running this whole thing about levels of creativity and how you like to be all colorful and somehow you think that makes you more creative, but this entire thread was just some bloated attempt at you putting your opinion out there. There is no nothing gained from this attempt at discussion. "Hey, why do people wear the same thing." "Because they wear what they like." That's the core of your initial attempt at a discussion. Underlying that is a very passive jab at people who's tastes obviously differ from yours.

In your OP you claim all you see are generic miqo and aura wearing the coat or the thavnarian set. This immediately is you shutting down them all because of heavy biased on a very apparent and popular image. What facial options did they have? Make-up or tattoos? Hairstyle? Colors? Accessories? What particular shows are they wearing that compliment or set them apart?

You see the coat or the thavnarian top and you jump straight to "Hey they are all the same, completely cookie cutter, no individuality or creativity." Except most of the significant creativity comes in the small and subtle differences each of them have while still wearing what they enjoy.

All you boast about is how different you are and your different outfits that are different. While you have not so openly shamed anyone for not being different it's all in how you present your words rather than the words themselves, and you are so very clearly undermining people who are not "on your creative level".

You have some wiggle room when putting together an outfit, but it's still limited.
I can relate. The adept thighboots are among my favorite glamours to use. However, the blue soles on the bottom kills it for reuse (luckily Xiaomu's color scheme includes blue). In fact the only version of the boots that do not have the blue are the lv58 healer boots and the designs are different. I would've loved to use this on my Monk, but the fact that her main color scheme is red ruins it (Tried using the Scion Healer's boots, but not exactly feeling the platforms).

I really hope that Yoshida and the others are looking at the Glamour suggestion topics.
