We should but then DPS would be held accountable like tanks/healers are and all the bad dps players would cry that they're not getting carried and the mods would have to work too hard to accommodate the care bear community.

Pretty much. I've seen some things... Things no one should see...
I wish i had a parser ig when i started raiding 2 months ago, i was under healers dps during my first clear... statics leaders even asked me if i was new with my job q_q ...
I would love an in game parser. It would be nice to see more accurate info. I know I love parsers. I enjoy seeing my healing and dps numbers to see what I need to work on, instead of being totally blind.
From a game design point of view, if the game has DPS and HPS challenges, the player should be provided the tools to measure their performance against those checks in my opinion.
A parser doesn't really help your performance, especially if you already play well, but it provides a wealth of information. Making use of that knowledge is a different matter altogether. A simple DPS number is not all that useful, especially for a casual player, except for maybe making them realize their actual performance level. It might spark them to research their gameplay but simply knowing your DPS compared to others doesn't do much for them. It won't turn a wipe into a clear for example. The important part, however, is knowing why the wipe happened, and this knowledge is something an in-depth parser can provide. Skills used, actions per minute, buffs and debuffs, damage taken: these are the important things, not the final DPS number.
"What is my DPS?" is not the right question nor an interesting one. "Why is my DPS the way it is?" is the thing everyone should be asking themselves.
A parser is absolutely necessary when running stuff with my static, we need to see who is bottom dps so we can all mock them. Seriously tho, it isn't needed, but (well for me personally anyway) true endgame is competing against myself, every week I want to know what were my numbers, is it a personal best, did I do better then last time
In pug content, a parser isn't needed to clear the content; it's needed to identify the people who join farms without much idea how to play their class properly, and are there purely to stay under the radar and get carried. Sometimes, they genuinely don't know their dps is low, a parser could help here. There are also who some who just half-ass it, and are banking and not getting noticed. Sometimes you get a few of these in the same party and don't have the dps to clear. There are too many of these people imo
I think if a parser was introduced, sure there would be people who misuse it, and abuse people. Some people are a$$holes, this is not news. But they should just be reported, and SE punish them accordingly. I'd hope they'd be a minority, and I don't think it's fair that the entire playerbase is denied this tool, on account of a few.
As a PS4 player, I always want to know my numbers, but often don't ask, as I don't want to annoy others by asking after every run.
It is a shame. A parser could really help people who want to improve. This in turn, could maybe even lead to SE being able to bring in more interesting content that was a bit more challenging, if the average playing standard of the playerbase was a little higher. I think the fact that average ability is generally quite low is why almost everything has to be made faceroll ("expert" roulette lol)
You already have that. If you fail a DPS check something happens and everyone knows it. It's not some mystery that waits until you're at 1% on a boss before randomly killing everyone. Enrage timers aren't some profound and mystifying concept, either. A parser is useful for seeing weaknesses in your group and in yourself, but it's far from actually necessary to accomplish things.
Parsing just gives you more information, and it doesn't need to be built into the client for you to take advantage of that information.
Well, I mean, simply dying is about as useful as only giving you a number and no information behind the said number. For the same reason I'm not really vouching for an in-game DPS meter, because I have serious doubts it'd be as useful as ACT+FFlogs are.You already have that. I'm pretty happy with the current situation, although I feel bad for the console players that can only get their information indirectly.
Its not needed at all, only for those who are scared they are under preforming and want to know exactly where they are on the scale.
Im a ps4 player, and a strong believer that practice makes perfect.. if you dont hit that dummy and try new things you wont really get far at all. i dont need someone to tell me how much dps im pulling or whatnot since this tier isnt really about how much dps your pulling its more mechanics heavy imo, its the same with guides and such players tell me that i SHOULD watch a guide on fights to get a better understanding, I disagree to this because guides now days feel rushed and are more about the view count then actually teaching the player the fight. plus going in blind with a full group of FC members, Static, PF (if you note its a blind run) or just friends in general its darn fun, give it a shot this tier its actually better to learn for yourself then be a sheep and copy others, (which i know your not fond of from your glam thread)
