It should not, because the Japanese for this is 鳳凰 (houou), not 朱雀 (Suzaku). They have some aesthetic similarities, but it's just a kind of mythical creature, not a singular entity.It should be Zhu Que or Suzaku imo, it'd fit better with Kirin. But it's not as recognizable as phoenix for most westerners.
Not that "phoenix" is really any more correct, but still.
