Namely id like it for the msq in itself to be able to get me to lvl cap, and save side stuff for later/other jobs. That said I def want 60+ hours of casual play from 60-70 at least. I really enjoyed the HW msq, minus sometimes being annoyed at having to back pedal for the sidequests for xp (though most of those were nice world builders too and easier to pull off cuz of flying)

Gating just isnt fun, well extreme gating that is because the fact of the matter is , that no matter how many quest they put in the game u will never spend more time doing the actual msq than anything else. So for me someone who loves the story its not fun to just streamline it like Im watchin a movie and having to do it back to back to back. I made a post about it a while ago , some people love cliff hangers I for one dont. Ive actually never played a game to where I had no story line left, and it concerns me that I would get extremely bored.

"Every day things" shouldn't be entirely optional, but they should be used judiciously for proper pacing.

A story where you're just moving from one big set piece or high stakes action/situation to the next is just as bad as drawing out the time between those big moments to too great a degree. A properly paced story will have moments where less is going on, where characters are being developed, and where they are building to the bigger moments as various plot points begin to develop - it's in those moments in the story, that are too often called "useless filler" (most often, I think, because too many just want the big moments and don't actually care for a properly paced story), that the "every day things" should be used.

The start of 2.x is a good example of this - you've just beaten Gaius and Lahabrea, destroyed Ultima, and saved the realm. There's not much else going on at that exact moment since you've just dealt with a whole string of threats, so pulling things back and dealing with the much smaller scope of moving your HQ to a new location and introducing a new character or two is the perfect time to scale things back, and even then they don't spend much time before introducing the start of one of the next major story arcs, the Primal arc. If you don't scale back like that you just end up with the problem that every next set of things has to be bigger than the last. A story with proper pacing needs a chance to breathe, basically.

The start of the 3.x series did something similar with scaling things back a bit, though it feels shorter (and is) because they've separated stories more (and also aren't doing like 4 story arcs all at once) - had they handled the Warring Triad like they did the story in 2.x then it would have been part of the 3.x MSQ. Instead it gets its own side stuff to be done when you feel like doing it, and while that is convenient for those that aren't keen on a longer MSQ, it comes with the disadvantage that the events aren't likely to matter much (if at all) to the events of the MSQ.

The Company of Heroes interruption is a bad example, though it doesn't really deal with every day things, because it interrupts what it supposed to feel like it's a "must deal with now situation" regarding Titan. Interrupting the rising action is the wrong time for "filler" or "every day things" whereas during the denouement or as the next set of rising action is about to begin would be the right time.

I would love a long MSQ with no level gateing until end game.

Yeah the level gating was pretty bad in HW. Talk to Y'shtola. Level gate. Go into Idylshire. Level gate. Talk to Y'shtola again. Level gate. Talk to Matoya, Level Gate. Do Gubal Library. Level Gate. Go to Azys Lla. Of course it would ahve been bearable with real levequests, guildhests and hunting logs, instead of moogle quests to get past said gates.

But yes, walking and talking shouldn't be level gated.

Would definitely love to see a long MSQ. I really enjoyed the MSQ in HW because it felt like an actual journey. I wouldn't mind having a feeling of venture again.

I love the MSQ but I'd rather not have regions gated behind the MSQ, because I found that really frustrating not being able to do my jobs's quests because I could not access said regions because I was not there yet in the MSQ.

I came to Eorzea during the weeks before 2.3 dropped so had the luxury of doing the storyline from 2.0 to 2.2x in one go. It was glorious & I really appreciated being able to experience a long MSQ as well as the side quests. I felt the same with 2.5 & 2.55.

I really hope that the developers haven't sacrificed the storyline to appease those who want a hack'n'slash game without any meaning behind it. It was the story that brought me to Eorzea & kept me here. If I wanted to mindlessly kill things fir arbitrary reasons then there's a million other games with that banality.

I'm all for a long MSQ as long as it doesn't sacrifice quality in the process.

Bloating it out with a bunch of boring back and forth quests where little of substance happens would not make me a happy chappy.
