It was a gameplay necessity to allow flying later. It certainly could be streamlined by cutting out the pure exploration ones and only use the quest rewarded ones.

But allowing flying right off the bat would have prevented the developers from incorporating travel from point A to point B in the quests. You experience the area much differently if you can't fly to bypass all obstacles.

I'd love a very long and interesting MSQ for Stormblood!
Interesting, because just long for the sake of length is usually not good either. I just want actual story, no 50 fetch quests in between as padding just to make it longer.

But I also really like the aspect of content and areas being gated behind the MSQ, sorry
That's kind of what sets FFXIV apart from other MMOs for me, that it is truly story-centric and the story is NOT something you kind of do at the side if you ever remember coming back to it >.>

Ew no, the exploration part was actually what was fun. What most people hated was that some were gated behind sidequests that 1. were unclear which so you had to do them all and 2. often were a follow-up quest to another sidequest so you LITERALLY had to do every single quest in the area.

So it sounds like you want long story quests in sidequests (re: you like long story, but don't like the gating.)

If they were to gate behind purely exploration, it would allow players to just immediately run around the instant they enter the zone and unlock flying. Which would kinda defeat the purpose of gating it in the first place.

So I guess sticking to the combination would be best.

Possibly add a special icon to quests that reward or lead to aether currents to prevent the confusion.

I understand what Yoshi meant by his comments, while yes the idea of just sitting back and watching the story unfold can be nice, at the same time it takes you away from the experience. you are no longer part of the story but rather going along for the ride. So I can understand why they would want to do less of this because you as the player should be able to have more interaction on scenes.

But as seen from the 2.5 Finale you were pretty much just a guest character partaking in the heroic actions of the Scions while you were pretty much a Damsel in Distress because you did absolutely nothing in that scenario other than run while the Scions saved you.

So I can see why they would want to try and change this part of it, to give players a means of interaction during these parts that isn't just one long cutscene. Cause ask yourself this, what would of been more fun? Just watching the 30 min Cutscene unfold and then question why you did absolutely nothing or to have the scenario play out and you actually take an active role in escaping along with aiding the Scions in falling back and preventing yourselves from being captured?

I rather have a quality story then a long story. Most times when it a story is long when it doesn't need to be just goes downhill most of the time.

I would trade a long story for a story where I don't feel dislike for the people I am suppose to be saving. The Ishgardians came off very unlikable to me. I get that is how a story goes sometimes, but I remember thinking "Damn these folks are jerks, why am I helping them again?" only to get to the big revel about what really started the war, which changed it to "These people are really tools and I now have proof and..... I still seem to be helping them..... Why SE?"

Just once I would like to save people that seem to deserve it. ARR had the same problem. I really want to like the Ala Mhigans.
