That reminds me of when I equip 'The Reaper' title and random people ask how I got it and I tell them I did 500 fisher levequests and they are, like, 'Ohh... lame.', so I stopped using it.
I will reiterate something already stated, because it's also happened to me: People have asked where I got my gear/mount/title because they were unfamiliar with it. I've seen many, many posts (here and reddit) where people post images of PVP gear, asking others where they can find it because they've never seen it before.I'm implying that nobody except tiny amount of pvp regulars care about pvp and its rankings and rewards, unless they invade in pure pve territory like minions and mounts. It's pvpers who actually tried to take away pve rewards, that's why they got such an angry community response in that minion thread.
If you think I'm wrong, try to shout in Limsa or Idylshire 'Hey guys I'm in top 10 of last seasons Feast, isnt that just awesome?' and see what kind of responses you'll get.
You're 100% delusional if you think mounts/minions are "pure pve territory". PVP has what, 6, soon to be 7 (then 8 with S4) mounts? We recently had a minion added via wolf marks, and another added as a random feast drop. Stop being ridiculous.
FWIW, I've been congratulated by FC members and a neighbor for placing in the top 100, not to mention anyone in an actual PVP area for instant "street cred".
Your analogy is wholly unrelatable because these exclusive rewards aren't "useful" goods, they're trophies. The trophies are up for grabs for anyone meeting the minimal requirements to participate in the contest, and awarded to the winners as defined by a set of pre-defined rules and criteria. None of what you said has any bearing on the topic at hand.Everyone who's not either selfish, a sadist, ignorant or any combination of them would always be against exclusivity of goods and for exclusivity of bads, because whenever you argue for exclusivity for goods or against exclusivity of bads, you argue for a lower total level of utility for the entire populace. Just as diseases should not be spread if it can be helped, items of value should not be exclusive if it can be helped, because the utility derived from the exclusion (both positive or negative) is always exceeded by the utility of the others being ex/included. Therefore, the goal is to spread goods as much as possible and confine bads as much as possible and the ideal world consequently is one where nobody is excluded from goods and everyone is excluded from bads. The age old dream of a world of peace and abundance.
As such, everyone in favor of exclusivity of goods (or against exclusivity of bads) is malicious, either out of sadistic tendencies, selfishness or ignorance. The prior two are lost causes, the latter should be resolved now. And if the reader now feels personally addressed or insulted, that's their own problem. I'm just calling the emperor naked here.
I'll grant that the margin of malice is very small when it comes to vanity goods in a obscure video game. But the principle remains.
And yet here you are, trying to obtain something you supposedly don't care about. Wut?Likewise, PvP'ers who hold up virtual 'exclisive' trinkets to feel 'special' as if anyone cares about them
Pro tip: your achievements will become irrelevant in time. They are already irrelevant as nobody cares about S1 or S2 gear. What exaclty do you gain from exclusive goods nobody cares about?
And when they will all die with servers shutdown... what will you do? You'll remember it as 'Hey, once I spent 1000 hours to get that PvP item which only 10 people had on my server in that dead MMO while others were having fun in PvE by sharing everything and working together'? That doesn't sound like a good memory.
Pro Tip: Everything is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. My grandfather said, about any problems, "In 100 years it won't matter", because you'll be dead and gone. So let me revel in the my achievements, on display through my "exclusive" winnings. Clearly they're lusted after, if only by you (which we all know isn't true).
IDK about you, but I still play this game with players from our previous MMO, who know about my past and current achievements. Get more friends and be able to relate? IDK what to tell you.

Yeah, about that. PvP has some mount rewards, sure, but look at this latest official census.
Out of 70+ mounts in the game Mentor mount is the rarest because it's new and hidden by insane grind. But the rest of rarest are PvP mounts.
Such a little amount of people play PvP that anything related to it is already ultra rare, only a few players per server have these mounts.
It's already exclusive to pvp regulars without any time limit to get them, no need to make it even more rare by timegates.
Not to mention they rarely if ever use these mounts because they don't participate in any PvE activity, they don't appear in overworld areas, I see them only afking in Limsa waiting for the next pop all the time.
Designing mounts for PvP regulars is only a waste of developer resources.
Because up to that point you were able to get any mount if you were subscribed at the time. These are the first two really 'missable' mounts. Unless we start massive petitioning in General Discussion and they'll repeat rewards later or make them permanent. It worked with Lightning event gear (which was supposed to have limited time event exclusivity), it will work with mounts too.
Limited rewards can be viewed as a reward in itself from SE for dedicated customers/fan base who maintain a constant consistent monthly subscription that is able and also motivated to partake in these limited time event/reward offerings. Putting a window on it only makes the rewards that much sweeter. I do miss FFXI's rare/exclusive items that really were special and unique snowflakes.
It took me a year to get my black belt waist armor for monk, and when I got it, it was and to this day the most rewarding thing I have done in an mmo. I'll never forget that moment, and it will always be immortal in my heart till the day I die. Just kinda wish this game had something comparable with lasting staying power.
