Implying that the person who gets number one doesn't take skill? Implying that they get more help from their teammates than others who are trying to get rank one? This feels like a humble brag and an insult... I don't see how this is furthing your point, you don't get exclusive rewards for deep dungeon. There is a leaderboard, but they are completely different things. I'm sure the people trying to beat your score in deep dungeon care, same with pvp. Just because that person isn't you doesn't mean "nobody cares". Be careful with absolutes.

No. No no no. H E L L no. Its the exclusiveness/ limited window/ rareness that makes the item desirable in the 1st place. If the rewards were simply treated like items in a pvp style cash shop anyone could get, they'd lose their flare in relatively short time.

How many people currently have the black ADS mount from pvp? Everyone and their mama. 2 years old. When you see one, does it raise a brow? No....nothing special anymore, and can still be obtained.

Enter new limited pvp mount. Significantly less to go around, and in 2 years time itll still stand out more than the ADS one everyone has. Its the rarity that makes it special.

Sidenote, Niko had an excelent point about items in ff11 holding far more significance due to their rarity/ trouble to obtain. I remember being one of the first people to get full god gear from sky (Kirin's osode always~) and couldn't help but feel proud in it. Closest thing we have to stuff like that is savage gear...which becomes null nearly the second its released, vender gear having nearly the same effect.

The current system's fine. Limited window of opportunity for a cool item. Miss it and you have only yourself to blame.

I'm implying that nobody except tiny amount of pvp regulars care about pvp and its rankings and rewards, unless they invade in pure pve territory like minions and mounts. It's pvpers who actually tried to take away pve rewards, that's why they got such an angry community response in that minion thread.

If you think I'm wrong, try to shout in Limsa or Idylshire 'Hey guys I'm in top 10 of last seasons Feast, isnt that just awesome?' and see what kind of responses you'll get.

Just as diseases should not be spread if it can be helped, items of value should not be exclusive if it can be helped, because the utility derived from the exclusion (both positive or negative) is always exceeded by the utility of the others being ex/included. Therefore, the goal is to spread goods as much as possible and confine bads as much as possible and the ideal world consequently is one where nobody is excluded from goods and everyone is excluded from bads. The age old dream of a world of peace and abundance.

As such, everyone in favor of exclusivity of goods (or against exclusivity of bads) is malicious, either out of sadistic tendencies, selfishness or ignorance. The prior two are lost causes, the latter should be resolved now. And if the reader now feels personally addressed or insulted, that's their own problem. I'm just calling the emperor naked here.

I'll grant that the margin of malice is very small when it comes to vanity goods in a obscure video game. But the principle remains.

    Wut?

Try this instead: People are proud of their accomplishments and don't want them diminished by having their rewards handed out to those that:

    1) Are/were not skilled enough to achieve the same goal to obtain those rewards
    2) Did not even try to achieve the same goal to obtain those rewards

In both of the above cases, those people feel entitled if they think symbols of prestige should just be given to them.

Likewise, PvP'ers who hold up virtual 'exclisive' trinkets to feel 'special' as if anyone cares about them

Pro tip: your achievements will become irrelevant in time. They are already irrelevant as nobody cares about S1 or S2 gear. What exaclty do you gain from exclusive goods nobody cares about?

And when they will all die with servers shutdown... what will you do? You'll remember it as 'Hey, once I spent 1000 hours to get that PvP item which only 10 people had on my server in that dead MMO while others were having fun in PvE by sharing everything and working together'? That doesn't sound like a good memory.

How can you say this when you have not experienced it? Tons of people hold the rewards in high regard. It's just wrong to state otherwise. Until the end of the game, you will have people who ask...

"Hey, how'd you get that title?"
"Wow, where is that awesome mount from?"
"Woah! I've never seen that coat before!"
"You're the only person I've ever seen with that crown!"

Why do anything in life, then? After all, we're just going to die eventually anyway.

On my old server (lich) and current one (gilgamesh) + in several Pve duties people did actually cared about S1 and S2 gear when I used it. They said it looks nice and asked how to get them ofc they were upset/jealous but they still said its pretty achievement reward which they want to have too.

How can you even know that no one cares if you never actually earned said rewards and used them smh.

I do find the PVP community a little strange it's desperate to have exclusive content that makes sure the vast bulk of the player base will never even do it and then gets really confused when they don't get much attention from the development team.
