It's kind an old topic but here we go. In lvl 35+ dungeons your dark knight have Blood Price and Syphon Strike Combo to recover mp and it's your best friend.

Blood Weapon is useful for Off tank or go in dungeons below lvl 35 and its also good carry some Hi-Ether and Hi-elixir to recover a bit of mp, in case you need.

I never use blood weapon as main tank and never have mp issues on dark knight to keep darkside up and spam unleash. Even when the fight take so long due bad dps and my drk lose the effect of darkside i keep using Syphon Strike Combo and Blood Price if its ready to use, it's enough to recover a great amount of mp and turn on darkside again.

I've seem lots of garbage drk dropping grit to use Blood Weapon, they lose the aggro for dps and healer and things get worse.

Blood Weapon is part of your tool kit for a reason, so you can get a solid aggro lead, drop grit, and use your dark arts abilities to their fullest. When the dps/ healer starts to gain on aggro put grit back on. dropping grit doesn't make you a garbage tank, and no tank should waste their potion cd on mp regen.

Tell that to DRK's maintanking savage without grit and with blood weapon. It is not for OT only and if the drk, healer and the dps can play he will never lose hate. Remember, its not always the tanks fault if he loses hate!

If you end up in a low level dungeon where you can use grit, use it no matter what.

Depend the situation, if you go for big pulls, for example, on lvl 50 you must keep grit up for less dmg while the dps do their job after they kill some mobs drop grit, use Blood Weapon to recover MP, activate Dark Arts and Soul Eater Combo. Some friends in LS told me that, tried out and worked well. I usually go for the safe way when i PUG in DF and keep grit up when i go tank my dailies, just to take less dmg and let the healers have fun dpsing, but now if the healer is good ill start drop grit and dps after make sure i have a solid aggro. Anyways i started enjoy Drk a few months ago and topics like this are very useful.

Of cause you don't drop grit during big pulls because of the damage that you'll take and because it makes your life easier keeping hate, you don't even drop grit on level 60 at the beginning of a pull. I was refering to bosses because that is what savage is about. You say let the healer have fun dpsing, but a bad healer will never start dpsing and if he does, you'll die even with tank stance up because he gets carried away or missreads the whole situation. In general you should only drop your tank stance if you know what you are doing.

Your example from keeper of the lake was by the way one of the lolDRK who doesn't know how to play at all. You can't take this as an example for keeping grit up.

Heck, DRK is so much fun on big pulls. Infinite mana, a lot of HP leech from DA>Abyssal Drain, even without Grit prepull you are quite fine.

Some healers are annoying as heck tho, so I normally still do aoe so I don't have to worry about healer aggroing. And there is that WHM holy-ing every single opener, rip mana.

DP is a priority. AD spam is lovely with BP, but you want to balance that use with keeping DP on cooldown, DAing it for groups. Don't have the MP? Too much DAAD, or poor timed BP, wasted Unleash proc, forgotten SS use.

What I notice about other DRK in dungeon is fundamental positioning. With DP, DRK can get a little jiggle-happy, and DPS/Healers appreciate a tank that isn't zig-zagging all over the board to line up DP. So balancing that is a Q-Q I've got when watching other DRKs.

Agreed, living dead won't save Drk if the healer take naps. It's rare find bad healers and tanks than bad dps.
