If BLM is still all about spamming one spell as much as possible for damage in 4.0, I'm out and jumping ship to RDM. I wasn't happy with it in 2.0 spamming Fire 1 of all things over and over, and while it is better in 3.x with your highest tier fire spell being the one to spam, at the end of the day you're still just doing the same motions of spamming fire and going into ice.

This guy has it exactly right! This would make the rotation less punishing while still retaining its complexity.
For the love of God, please please don't throw us back to brainless 2.x Fire spamming!

Yes please! I think this is the perfect solution.

rotation wise, blm is perfect the way it is imo, and pretty easy.
what really needs to happen to blm (and smn as well) is give them group synergy.
the problem we have currently in endgame meta builds is blm and smn weighing a group down by not buffing anybody, where as a mnk/nin/mch/drg group can have blood for blood up forever and constant physical damage taken debuff on the boss. although a blm or smn might pull higher dps out of the group when fully buffed by a comp that compliments them, the group dps as a whole is lower due to the drg receiving ZERO help from the other dps in a brd/smn/blm/drg comp.

the easiest fix would be just giving every dps class the ability to cross class blood for blood. another option would be giving blm's and smn's a new debuff that increases magic damage taken on target from all sources so at least a blm and smn could synergize. Then just increase boss HP in future fights to compensate the increase in group dps.

Also summoner's resurrection can be very handy in certain situations, and blm has their own physical and magical shield and even an untraited e4e and virus. That's their contribution to the raid as well as consistently high DPS on their own. it's not always about buffing everyone's damage. I wouldn't say they 'weigh a group down' nor is it a problem with the current meta. just hop on fflogs and see which jobs pull the most dps. You might just see a good few casters up there.

The old 2.0 rotation, if you can even call it that, of spamming one thing over and over again was incredibly dull. I much prefer how it is now. I hope they don't change enochian to make it "easier" for people, as frankly it's not that difficult anyway. People are talking as if enoch randomly just drops off. The only times it really drops is when I want it to, if the boss is about to go untargetable and I don't want to refresh it yet, or I've done something idiotic, like mistargeted and cast b4 at an add that's died before cast finished (remember once i cast at that fcking pauldron shield thing in a11s lol)... which is entirely on me, nothing to do with the class needing to be made easier

He's probably refering to the ideal speed run setup which uses 2 melees (most of the times drk + ninja) + BRD and MCH. Which is less about individual dps (still fucking high for those people) but more about how fast you can clear the fight as a group.
FFlogs has his own categorie now for that and except for a9s casters aren't really that desired for those speed clears.
SE just cranked BRD and MCH DPS too high for their support.
E.g. for A12s the fasted clear the MCH had the highest dps then the BRD and DRG with a difference by 0.5 dps between those two and then the NIN 111 dps behind them.

cant they just simplify the spell? so (example) instead of fire fire2 fire3 fire4, the spell is just called "fire", in this case fire2 is not aoe anymore (the aoe fire has different skill name)

*cast fire spell, no AF* = normal fire spell (generate 1 AF)
*1 AF, fire spell change to fire2* = higher potency (generate 1 AF)
*2 AF, fire2 change to fire3* = even higher potency (generate 1 AF)
*3 AF, fire3* when cast and stand on ley lines it become fire4

something like that, so "fire" and "blizzard" is now 2 skill (no more version 2 version 3 and so on) aoe fire can change to something like "fira" for example, that should reduce some of the skill button bloat

I wish they would make BLM more like the Nuker Eelementalist in GW1 now that was fun!! Great skills and very nice CC. I thought that was what I was going to be but I do agree that the way it is designed it is just plain boring albeit with some nice graphics.

I'm basing my argument off those logs. you might see a blm or smn having the highest dps for a fight out of everyone, but look at the speed of clears, and you'll find the most efficient clears (high group dps) is physical damage. casters aren't really that far behind in those comps, but they are still behind and i just think having b4b, or some kind of magic vulnerability up debuff could even it out.

and i understand the mitigation tools, but they almost never feel necessary to win. helpful at many times, but when groups understand how to not pick up vulnerability stacks it feels kind of null. maybe if raid damage increased it would make us more viable due to requiring those damage softening abilities, but for where we're at now that is not the case, and due to them wanting to dumb down raids i doubt we'll see that in the future as well.
