If a pro football player owns a business and that business starts tanking, he COULD bail it out with the millions in football funds, but he shouldn't be expected to. That business needs to stand on it's own two feet.

SE is a business. And it isn't "non-profit" either. The end goal is for them to make money, and the fact that they have admitted to their mistakes and allowed everyone to play for free while they continue to work on it has shown quite a bit of integrity for a corporation.

Saying "SE doesn't NEED our money for XIV" is like saying they shouldn't charge a subscription for FFXI, or that the newest FF game should be released for free since the company has the money.

When you can realize and understand that SE is not developing freeware and that they are a for-profit company, then you'll realize they've actually made considerable sacrifice for the players this past year.

Just because people make purchasing mistakes all the time doesn't mean that they should be automatically willing to spend less money on something that may not be worth it. Of course we all have regrets buying games, as well as anything else. It doesn't have any bearing on whether any other purchase is worth whatever amount of money.

I do agree that we know mostly what we're getting, and we have an outline of specific things to expect by certain dates, which makes the investment more of a sure thing. But on the other side of the same coin, because we know what's in the future we can just as easily make the decision to wait until said future has arrived before spending money on it. If 2.0 sounds great to someone, then why should they pay for 10 months of something else waiting for it? They know the date it's coming, and they can just start again at that time.

Of course you are willing to pay for it. That's great, and I hope at least some people are so Wada doesn't go crazy and cancel the whole thing while it's halfway done. But that's your individual decision to spend your $13 (or however much) for 10 months, and just because it's "only $13" doesn't mean everyone else with the same amount of money should make the same decision. I'm personally on the fence about it for my own subscriptions, I'm just saying it's not so black-and-white "you spend $13 going to a movie or buying two cups of coffee" as you, the OP, and many other people always make these things out to be.

I'm not making it black and white as you claim if you read what I said. I stated that it was about if it was worth the price or not, and pointed out that all people make bad choices (such as buying things they regret later) and that at least with FFXIV we knew what we were getting into. We have a larger picture, and it's not like grabbing a game off the shelf hoping that it is good.

I also said that it is worth it to me, and if it wasn't worth it to others then that was their decision but I for one was going to stay despite what other people think and how much they put the game down. I can't be making it black and white if I am saying everyone has to make their own decisions, I was simply pointing out that people have made silly decisions in their life without knowing what they were getting into, and at least with this game we knew what to expect.

Everyone has to make their own decisions, and no matter how much you, I or anyone else spouts their opinion... it's still our opinion and we are not the end all be all to everyone else's decisions.

I only make the comment about the 13$ because I felt your view on it was very one dimensional, and I was showing that you can view it in others ways as well, and to some the risk might be worth it.

Yep, you figured me out. Its obviously if someone likes something that others don't like they have to be working for the company. They pay me 100K a year to talk with people on forums and try and puff it up.

In all honesty I do enjoy the game, and no one has to agree with me on that. That is why there are so many different genres and types of games. Not everyone is going to enjoy the same thing... but the server I am on, and the people I play with... they are like my little online family and being with them makes me happy. That make the game so fun and enjoying, and I would pay just to stay with them.

And people choose to stay regardless. They choose to keep coming back every patch and try it out. No one forced anyone to play the game, yes maybe some bought the game and regretted it and if that is the first thing that people have ever bought int here life and wished they hadn't then they are doing pretty good. I for one have bought many thing's I regretted, and I just move on.

And then choose to open up the official forums to get everyone's feed back. They also choose to let you play the game for free for a year, let up keep all of our progression, let up keep our characters and are now even going to let up redesign them when the time comes if we wish to do so. I feel more sympathy towards SE for having to listen to rude people put them down constantly while they are basically making two games at once to make us happy, than for anyone's lost 80$. I spent the money too, and I just dealt with it... no one here is alone on that boat.

I rather start out bad and make a huge comeback, then to have a great start only to fall short. What is bad has the potential to become good. A Game that already reached it potential and then start loosing its grip, when they were already good from the start makes them kinda look bad tbh. A MMO that starts out bad has the potential to see greater things if they have determination and heart to reach there goal. FFXIV went through so much from the Rocky start, and its only getting Progressively better.

That's the one major reason why I'm Paying for the game is because, SE showed a lot of Heart and Determination to reach this point after suffering so much with this game. They Deserve my Support.

We all knew the free ride would be coming to a end sooner or later. All but the ignorate new that it would be after they layed out there full plans for the future of the title.

It's a very personal decision to re-up your account when payments start. If you feel that the game has improved to the point were you are willing to pay the $~13 and you dig the direction they are taking the game they you will. if you don't then no further action is required on your part, simple as that. As much as i dislike to paraphrase the folowing quote the following During ccp's "Recent" debacle. A developer said in a internal email "Lets see if there actions match there words." this was in response to big player protests surrounding a 70$ cosmetic item and what it could represent with there newly created cash store in eve online.

Now i Ain't saying anything one way or another. Go, stay, Keep tabs on progression, write the game off. It's every ones personal decision. and that's all there is to it.
