Brand new players are highly unlikely to be paying for three games. They'll probably pay the same $60 or so for the expansion that we will, and get the base game and previous expansions for free. It's been this way with MMOs and expansions for a long while now.
Oooh, shiney...
Playing games is about recreation and fun, not about work.
Maybe .. maybe not ...
This is only the second expansion coming up. SE has yet to start giving away the base game for free with the purchase of Heavensward. They may decide to continue charging for both ARR and HW when SB arrives.
Eventually, yes, the base game and older expansions will become "free", bundled with the latest expansion. That has not happened yet, with ARR, HW still being sold separately, and ARR+HW combo packs costing more than either ARR or HW alone do.
Implying work is any better. You used to have to walk to the nearest cell to get access to the phone network, now everyone's got a mobile - that's not fair at all! You used to have to walk to the library or ask experts to get access to information that nowadays can just be google'd. Getting access to the computing power of 3 years ago is almost trivial these days.
People are several times more productive than they used to be some years ago and that's all thanks to things no longer taking as long as they used to - or, as some people would put it, all thanks to their achievements being diminished.
I like this! So, when I am told that I should go to work from Monday to Friday, it actually means, that I can stay home on Fridays? I've learned something new today! You never said hitting level 70. In fact, the point she was quoting you on, said ARR to SB ... which means, the stopping point is the end of HW and the starting point of SB, not the ending point of SB.
Now, you may have thought you were saying "all the way from the start of ARR to the end of SB" but ... that's not what you typed in.
All these topics about make it lv30, make it harder, we had to, and these new players. All I can see in my head is old men yelling from their lawns.

Lol, you don't understand do you. It does directly impact me when standard difficulty content gets nerfed due to complaints, it does directly affect me when content is directly made to appeal to those who don't invest time, and deep and meaningful content is an afterthought. This is a shared world where everything the devs do affects everyone. I think it's actually rather self entitled to insinuate that this game isn't shared, and that maelor has no business in discussing a game that he clearly cares about.
I defend both sides of this argument, but Maelor makes a valid point and was shut down by you with no actual response to his complaint.

This doesn't really address Aramina's point though, as the potion is optional and more importantly, does not change the way you can level up. I think that's part of the reason SE is doing it this way, so they don't butcher what is already in place so people can do it the way maelor done it if they so wish.
Personally, I would of liked if at the end of The Praetorium, you could walk up to the gates of Ishgard and have the choice to start HW after watching a extended cut scene, then after HW, being able to do the same to Stormblood.
Any way you read Maelor's post, its basically, "I done it the hard way, so should you" I know this is subjective, but to me, that attitude far more selfish when in the context of a game we play for fun. Especially if that drives off new players. I feel the importance of the studio being profitable and more importantly, sustainable far more important than someone's ego.
