Director said it clearly, only flying mounts can swim, I wouldn't be surprised to find out the Loch Ness creature can fly too!...

I do hope though they value logic this time around, except for the infinite diving ability, so that they will make clearly apparent sea/water mounts able to be used underwater!...

Well, even putting aside the apparent Lore Reasons regarding the Elbst, whether they implement a new one just for swimming or not, they could always just go back and rework it. There were a number of floating mounts from ARR that weren't flight-capable at launch of HW after all, but they were patched in soon enough.

Mount lore has been changed before. The Adamantoise did not have the mention of thaumaturges or the ability to cast spells.

The only option then, to not break the lore, is to make a new Elbst that can naturally swim but will of course be sloppy on the ground!...

He was pretty much poking fun at WoW with that.
Magic items that grant infinite breathing have long existed in FF Canon. I fully expect the quest to involve us drinking Oxyale.

Only flying mounts can swim. I'm sure there will be swimming - only mounts, as well.

I asked if the Elbst had been mentioned specifically, as the title of this thread suggests. Confirmation that flying mounts can also swim, is not confirmation that no other mounts will ever be adapted for swimming.

See, I know nothing about WoW, but the other series that's a massive hit in Japan is Monster Hunter. Which had underwater fighting in Tri and MH3U and you could make items to give you back breath underwater.

So far it's only flying mounts confirmed for swimming. With the way it was worded making it imply that ground mounts wouldn't be able to as they simply won't be able to enter the areas designated for swimming.
