I understand people's concerns about jump potions, but the game has been out for so long now. I have been trying to get some irl friends to play recently, but convincing them to trek through ARR AND HW just to be ready for the expansion is a huge ask if you have a full time job.

It's pretty crazy when you look at it from the point of view of a new player. Personally, I would give up if I had to go through all that content just to get to where everyone else is at. But I would also give up if I had to pay to skip it, would feel like I was being scammed, and I don't like that feeling.

Why not have a "free" potion with each new character?

It will not. RMT is going to do his thing no matter what, they still get in my way all the time. A story skipping potion wouldn't make it worse.

It will if it is free. It would do more harm in the botting side than the RMT side IMO, giving crafters/gatherer bots more area and markets to work with.

I insist, it will not. Having to pay for the game + a sub fee has not stopped RMT.

I've yet to see any RMT bots spamming their nonsense in Ishgard's marketboard and aetheryte areas. This is primarily due to having to delete their characters after a short amount of time and create a new one, and new characters have to go through the entirety of ARR's MSQ to set foot in Ishgard. Yes, RMT is clearly willing to pay $ for the sub, but that's a one time fee for a large number of character creations/deletions for the month. Imagine the $ they would lose if they actually coughed up $25 every single time they create a character just so they can spam in Ishgard too.

As long as the potions are paid, not free, I could see RMT paying it every once in awhile, but if every new character got one free, you'd start seeing the RMT bots running up to the Jeweled Crozier and popping under the terrain and turning on the spam nonsense in /say by the market board non-stop all day just like we already see in ARR's areas.

Edit: Maybe a compromise would be 1 free one per new full account? They'd still be paying per potion if they wanted to do that, but it would mean lost revenue for SE, so the incentive may not be there from a business perspective. I suppose that also throws out their original intent for the potion being only for new players wanting to catch up to their friends, so I doubt that's gonna happen at all.

same here , managed to get 4 friends buying ARR but then they quit before even reaching heavensward.Out of 4 only 1 stay and continue play with me.
they said , "catching up is hard with works" while I already told em i'm gonna help em through content but it's just hard for them.
