For just 41 cents a day, 1.8 cents an HOUR, you TOO can play FFXIV

It sets a bad precedent for other developers to follow, just like what happened with DLC content, at first it was "Ok i'll pay 10 bucks 4-6 months later for extra content of this game i like" now as soon as you buy the game, there are 1-2-3 DLC for the game(So they charge you $60 for a game, and expect you to pay 30 extra for content that should have been in the game in the first place) sometimes games come with bugs and problems and the fix is in the DLC, sometimes forcing your hand into buying them, what square enix is doing, will set the precedent of making the customer pay for the development of future games and then having to pay for the box at release too.

They gave us more than a year for free because it wasnt ready to be paid for. I dont think other developers/publishers want to follow that route.

Now FFXIV did reach a point where it offers the same amount of content most other MMOs do at Release, so why not ask for monthly fees then?

Yes, its still a long way of improvements, but its the same for every MMO.

Yes, its still a long way of improvements, but its the same for every MMO.

They gave us a free year, because people where not gonna stick around, it is as simple as that, within a month of release they lost 90% of their consumers, the game sold 600K+ Boxes, the current player base is below 50K. The game was not ready to charge a sub then, and it is not closer now.

Standard features in a MMO:

Auction house
Mail system
Guild management(LS Administration)
Engaging content
8-10 Istances (Dungeons etc etc)
An engaging crafting system that's fun to play
LFG Feature
End game content
low level content
Mid level content
Raids
Alt tabbing (Seriously.)
A method of saving your craft synths

What we have right now:

Naked Grind
3 dungeons
1 boss fight a la wow 2005.

Sure it is ready to go P2p.

I think an argument can be made that your "standard features in an MMO" don't exist completely in any MMO currently. That looks like far more of an "Ideal" list than a standard one.
