Stop setting up false choices that excuse SE from doing the work they should do to fix problems they created.

But then, why should SE bother fixing things when they have players like you who create excuses for them?

When World of Warcraft decided to overhaul their leveling experience everyone complained that it was the worst expansion ever because there wasn't enough to do at end game.

The more work S-E puts into reworking old content the less time and money they have to spend on brand new content.

I half agree with you on this one, WoWs issue for me has always been their "Take" on how to deal with the classes xpac by xpac, namely in that every other xpac they redesign the wheel to great "hit or miss" receptions. FF 14 thankfully so far has been about xpacs being exactly that, expansions to the core game. That said you are right, the cataclysm rework overall did little to promote people to level through the old world when they had options like heirlooms and paid jump options.

They aren't false choices. It's simple economics. We know Square Enix has set asside approximately $36 million for Stormblood. This is intended to cover everything, be it adjustments to existing content to development of new content. The devs have openly acknowledged their quest system does not allow for simply including a means to skip the story. Therefore, it would necessitate an overhaul of their current infrastructure. You then have to account for rewrites and new animations to maintain a cohesive narrative once you have Frankenstein'd it all back together. Every adjustment to A Realm Reborn and Heavensward directly affects the aforementioned $36 million. For pure argumentative sake, let's pretend it costs them $10 million. Stormblood now only has $26 million left.

How is any of this a "false choice?" What you are advocating comes at a cost. And it will influence what content does and does not make it into 4.0. Hence we will inevitably lose new content because their time and resources were dedicated to adjustments we will never even see.
