If it is included with the expansion I see no problem. Both the story and level jump potion.
It should not be an additional pay wall added to a new player after buying both expansions and the base game. If you want more then one job sure pay additional money or level the normal way.

Bad players will be bad players, those that want to learn will do so. This is to incentives new players coming to FFXIV to not run away from the hill that is ARR+HW in order to access Stormblood on release.

And in doing so, we get less new content come Stormblood. I'm already reaching a point where the expansion needs to serious wow me lest I move on to other games simply because I just don't have much to do. Will I actually quit? Probably not. I may, however, move into prolonged breaks. Knowing my habits, that has generally seen a declining interest the more I stay away. What you're advocating for will push away current veterans like myself because we're bored. Player retainer has been utterly abysmal this past year. The last thing XIV should be focusing on is less content or catering any more to casual players than it already does. Furthermore, trimming ARR and HW doesn't alleviate the issue. You just push it back until the next expansion. People do not want to grind through hundreds of quests to play new content. No amount of trimming will change the fact you'll still have a plethora of quests. If the game embraced a full open world concept, then it's deviating away from what I, personally, enjoy: a continuously developing story.

XIV backed itself into a corner the moment they stuck to the archaic system we have now. If the choice is between new content I get to explore and participate in or less because of adjustments to old content I have already completed. I'll take the former every time.

wow now that I think about it this touches on a thread that I got flack for , while they are adding jump potions I bet storm blood for us will be story gated prob just like hw content is. So basically if you pay you can skip everything up to expansion no gates, if you play the right way you get gated by msq and have to do msq to progress to any parts of the game in new expansion. That just seems pretty backwards to me.

Scratch that, you'll be teaching a lot of people.
If someone hasn't played an MMO before and they bought the base game+SB+story potion+job potion then I would be very, very surprised. Teaching them during a dungeon? If its a levelling dungeon then sure. If its a lvl 70 dungeon then I'll throw out whatever tips I can and tell them to find someone who is good at job and ask them for advice. If they're a sane person they will have tried the trial and learn to push a button or two and picked their favourite class to use the job potion. They won't need an optimal rotation in a dungeon so telling them to keep up Heavy Thrust, use CT combo, then use FT combo is pretty easy using DRG as an example. As long as they are willing to listen teaching them some basics should be no problem and directing them to find more information shouldn't be either.

Edit: post limit yay. Why do I right such long replies

I really don't see this a big deal. Starting the heavensward classes at 30 didn't really stop people from learning the class, so I can't see a jump to 50 doing it either. As it stands I still come across bards who played 1-50 who think they need to AOE spam single mobs or healers who just stand there waiting to heal when they could be tossing out some dps. I don't really see much changing except more people in the duty finder, good and bad.

    5. All dungeons implemented up to Patch 2.55 will be set as cleared.
This is probably the worst, can they at least keep their bonuses?

this i don't get, i've died many times as a tank because a healer wastes their mana on attacking, same reason i don't use cleric stance while running dungeons, just seems rather dumb to throw mana reserves away on the slight increase of overall dps over keeping the party alive

Realistically they should probably do what other MMOs do at some point and package the base game and previous expansions with the new one, whether that is appropriate at this stage is another discussion. If SB + potions cost is too high, then the introduction of jump potions might no be as successful in attracting new players as planned. WoW bundled a level boost to 100 with legion, if they're looking to poach experienced players from other games then adopting a comparable model might help.

Overall, honestly think it's a good idea - it's not P2W, as the purpose will just be bringing people to the beginning of that iteration of the game (4.0). Whether players are bad or not is very likely to be based on their attitude, rather than whether they used a jump potion as opposed to trawling through a mindless grind. It should also help with keeping the focus more on the current content - I for one would much rather be doing new activities for my 4.0 relic, rather than grinding old content.

this in particular makes me feel ill. these sure as hell shouldn't be marked as cleared, unlocked maybe.

unrelated to the thread, but this is the behavior and mindset of dead weight.

stop it now , it doesn't matter if yoshi add jump potion.
if your argument is : NOOBS doesnt know what to do with their class!!
    then it's utter bullshit.
With PoTD implemented and noobs levelling through PoTD do u really think they know what each skill is for?
They just use it to lv to 60 asap and think oh i am now lv 60 i am so good at this game!!!

I am not completely agree with jump pot either but , it help new players.
NEW PLAYERS help keep this game alive !!
if you think new players are stupid and stubborn and not willing to take advice then ditch em.
if they are worthy teaching then teach em.
The MENTOR system is there even if its not perfect and ok face it , some mentors are there just because the crown icon , some just want to milk the second chance from noobs.

i love this game , and even though its hard but i will think positively & respect Yoshi & his crew decision.
