I agree it is about if it's worth the price or not. But on the same hand, how many times have people bought video games for their consoles, popping out $40-$80+ dollars (if it's a special edition) and then not liked it? I'm sure we have all had that experience at least once.
How often to people buy games, and then taken them back because they finished it really fast, or didn't like it as well, so they trade it in (loosing money in the process) to get other games that they hope may or may not be better?
How many people have spent hundreds of dollars on a hand held, and then either upgraded soon after or (like the PSPGo) wished they had never bought it and had kept their PSP? That there was like, what $200?
That type of money could let me play for 4 moths to over a year... and at least with FFXIV we know what we are getting into and what to expect. We aren't walking into this blind like we did a year ago, and SE more than made that up by letting us, not only play for a year for free, but allowing us to keep all of our character data and progression.
We know if we like this game or if we don't like it, we know the next 2 year plan that SE had set up and we know where it is going.
Is it worth it for me, yes? If it's not worth it to others that's fine, but I am going to enjoy the game and pay the fee, because to me I don't see the flaw.
And remember, most millionaire's didn't become a millionaire because they sat around saying 'no no I can't take a risk I'm just going to sit here and do nothing because I might lose money!', they became a millionaire because they took risks and they paid off. That "but it's only 13$ a share!" might have net them their millions because they took the chance.
I'm willing to take a risk with this game because I feel it's worth it and enjoy not only the game but the people I play with, nothing anyone else says will change my mind.
