I would have to assume many of these are not the same people. I know I personally don't play rip-off-oriented games like Farmville. I don't even buy the overpriced DLC costumes in one of my favorite game series - Tales of.I find it amusing that some people will pour $20, $50, $100 or more a month into games that are F2P and Farmville...
Yet SE asks us to pay like $13 a month after getting a YEAR FREE (admitting their fault, and reworking the WHOLE bloody game) so they can continue to develop the game and make it awesome and all I hear are people QQing.
The issue here isn't how much people can afford. It's about whether it's worth the price or not. Just because you have money doesn't mean you should spend it; I can afford ten subscriptions right now, but obviously that's not worth the money. If the game is "50%" fixed and they're overhauling everything in a year, why should I pay $130 or so to keep playing until that time, when I can save that much over the same period of time? It's irrelevant whether or not that $130 is a big part of my finances over that time.
Everything adds up, and even a millionaire would be broke if he took everyone up on every offer of "but it's only $13!" he encountered.
Edit: Don't get me wrong, this may be a good move for SE, since any subscription fees are better than no subscription fees while they continue to pour money into it themselves. I'm just calling out the flaw in the personal justification for paying the cost people always bring up.

Kindred spirits. Although, I'm not so pleased with the current direction of the series... ToP:NDX wasn't really my thing and Graces was okay. I'm looking forward to ToI:R and hopefully one day there'll be a ToD2: R or something (Tales of Destiny 2 [not Eternia] has my favorite battle system ever) and I am totally off-topic but it's about Tales so I'll risk a warning or whatever.
Someone willing to pay monthly (twice?) for an incomplete product preaching to others about re-evaluating their life choices? are you high?I enjoy ffxiv, and play it on a regular basis. And I will continue to do so. If 12.95 a month is going to break your budget, or do anything remotely close, yes, you should go, an re-evaluate your life choices, such as spending a fortune on a computer that can even hope to play ffxiv when you are in such financial crisis.
If SE needs money, which they do after sinking a fortune into ffxiv, to make ffxiv succeed, then sure, have $12.95 a month from me. In face, they can have $25.90, I'll keep my mule active too.

I'm willing to pay for two accounts, it is inconsequential to me. I don't believe they should be charging at this juncture but I want to continue to play (less due to current enjoyment and more because I want to be ahead when 2.0 hits) and so I shall pay... for two accounts.
I don't see what's so bad about that.
its the master beta lol idc about that beta posters opinion i enjoy the game especialy since latest patch asfar as post release beta coment goes last i checked betas didnt get content updates
i'd pay 80bucks a month for a mmo that put out the same amount of content as a offline game. even though u can pay 20bucks a month to play those on gamefly and never run out of new content and games to play that are all new. but but it's not a mmo, but again happily pay 80bucks for it if it can push that much content? i think 13bucks of content is enough for you maybe, but they already stole our box sales. wheres that content.I enjoy ffxiv, and play it on a regular basis. I agree it is about if it's worth the price or not. But on the same hand, how many times have people bought video games for their consoles, popping out $40-$80+ dollars (if it's a special edition) and then not liked it? I'm sure we have all had that experience at least once.I would have to assume many of these are not the same people. I know I personally don't play rip-off-oriented games like Farmville. How often to people buy games, and then taken them back because they finished it really fast, or didn't like it as well, so they trade it in (loosing money in the process) to get other games that they hope may or may not be better?
How many people have spent hundreds of dollars on a hand held, and then either upgraded soon after or (like the PSPGo) wished they had never bought it and had kept their PSP? That there was like, what $200?
That type of money could let me play for 4 moths to over a year... and at least with FFXIV we know what we are getting into and what to expect. We aren't walking into this blind like we did a year ago, and SE more than made that up by letting us, not only play for a year for free, but allowing us to keep all of our character data and progression.
We know if we like this game or if we don't like it, we know the next 2 year plan that SE had set up and we know where it is going.
Is it worth it for me, yes? If it's not worth it to others that's fine, but I am going to enjoy the game and pay the fee, because to me I don't see the flaw.
And remember, most millionaire's didn't become a millionaire because they sat around saying 'no no I can't take a risk I'm just going to sit here and do nothing because I might lose money!', they became a millionaire because they took risks and they paid off. That "but it's only 13$ a share!" might have net them their millions because they took the chance.
I'm willing to take a risk with this game because I feel it's worth it and enjoy not only the game but the people I play with, nothing anyone else says will change my mind.![]()
