This seems like a lot of effort to keep things that wont be in the game a year from now running until they get to 2.0. While the launch can be seen as its greatest failure, I think they are compounding it by not working on all of this offline until the relaunch. SImply put, how many resources are being wasted keeping this crap online for another year that could otherwise be used to hasten the 2.0 release? To me at least, if this game finally gets shutdown (not that I am hoping for or saying that it will) they deserve it for dragging their feet. No one wants to pay for a game thats still in redevelopment. Just look at the threads. 2 out every 3 posts I see on the topic are people saying they love the changes but aren't willing to pay to play until the 2.0 release. Totally senseless on SE's part.
Hehe, thanks. I did find it kind of amusing that someone who clearly lacked basic grammar skills would try to claim that he understood a word's definition better than I did (his obvious weakness with words suggests to me that he may have misunderstood what he was taught in school or read in books), but he did give me a good reading suggestion, so I'm willing to forgive him for that.I don't know. Seems like Rhianu won the arguments. She's making solid points, she's making educated inferences and I noticed Bled started typing as if he were looking words up on google when he got called out on his spelling and grammar. GG.
Rhianu, don't let all these arguments sway you from your beliefs. You're absolutely right. And for the record, I'm an accountant
I keep seeing a lot of people saying that temporarily shutting the servers down would be a good idea, but in truth it's really not a good idea at all. It seems that a lot of people are under the impression that the development team could somehow work faster if the servers were turned off, but that makes absolutely no sense because the speed at which the devs work has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not the power switch on the servers boxes is flipped on or off. Flipping a power switch doesn't magically make people work faster. While the launch can be seen as its greatest failure, I think they are compounding it by not working on all of this offline until the relaunch. Plus, shutting the servers down until version 2.0 is released would cause SE would lose out on the constant stream of feedback from the playerbase. If they keep the servers online and operational, then players can maintain an active role in the development of the game going forward. That wouldn't be possible if SE took the game offline and continued development out of the public eye.
About the only good thing that could possibly be accomplished by shutting down the servers is that SE would save a bit of money on their electric and internet bills each month, which really isn't worth it, especially when you take into account just how valuable a continual feedback loop from the playerbase is.

By that logic, by enabling payment they're limiting the amount of feedback they get.
We were the first to kill Ifrit.
Nope. By that logic, they're increasing the quality of their feedback by increasing the percentage of people who won't QQ over everything. More than that, the prospect of paying will likely make us keep a keener eye and give much more consumer-biased feedback, which is harsh but better than soft suggestions.
